If you have worn sunscreen and have been taking care of your skin up until now, chances are you have aged well, but at some point, we are all going to get fine lines, crow’s feet, dryness, and baggy eyes. (And they don't even require a scalpel!) Even if you didn’t prepare for your forties by following a strict skin care routine in your twenties and thirties, you can still start a healthy anti-aging routine now. Using a night cream is almost always recommended (unless you have very oily skin), but as you age it becomes even more important. As mentioned above, it’s important to hydrate your skin, especially under the eyes. Sunscreen is essential to preventing damage from the sun, even if you do not spend much time outside. Simply performing every day activities outside or walking to and from work is enough exposure to damage your skin and cause signs of aging. Protect yourself from wrinkles, sun spots, and other signs of aging by always using a product with at least broad spectrum SPF 15 (we use SPF 30). We've been using Skin Authority's Sunscreen Moisturizer SPF 30 and totally recommend it. If you have sun spots, age spots, or other discoloration, get a good hyperpigmentation cream such as Skin Ceutical Pigment Regulator , which uses proven lightener hydroquinone. Be sure to treat the spots each day in order to lighten them, and then use a good sunblock to prevent further damage. Remember, aging can cause hyperpigmentation even if you protect yourself from the sun, so don't beat yourself up over these spots if you were careful in the sun. All retinols work to eliminate wrinkles and signs of aging, and many dermatologists recommend retinols for all age groups. If you begin using a retinol product, be sure to avoid the sun as much as possible and to wear SPF 30 or higher anytime you go outside. Retinols make the skin more susceptible to sun damage, which can in turn cause more signs of aging. Your skin may not react well to retinols at first, so ease them into your routine slowly and be sure to moisturize thoroughly while using them.
