Baby Skin Care : Children and Teen Skin : Skincare Advice

Fragrances: Added fragrance, or perfume (synthetic or natural) has no benefit and is always problematic for your child's skin (and for yours!). Fragrance can irritate the skin below its surface, so even though you may not notice a reaction in your child's skin, that doesn't mean damage isn't occurring. Essential oils and fragrant plant extracts: There are many beneficial natural ingredients, but just because something is a plant doesn't mean it's good for your skin. The product may look great to you, but coloring agents might be a problem for your young one's tender skin, and ultimately shouldn't be ingested (but think of how often baby sticks hands and fingers in his mouth). If your infant must be outside, take preventive steps such as protective clothing and shade over the stroller so as to avoid exposing your child's skin to direct sunlight. This is one of the most common skin conditions in children and something that almost every parent must deal with. In babies, cradle cap appears as red, scaly, flaky skin on the scalp, but it also can appear on other areas of the body, such as the face and neck. In fact, such products can trap more dead skin cells and slow the healing process. For very young children (check with your doctor) it is best to ignore KP unless the area becomes irritated and inflamed. With a bit of research, you can easily find the essentials to ensure you're taking good care of your child's skin! With Paula’s Choice Skincare, you can get (and keep) the best skin of your life! more...

I  spent time away from my kids, pouring over ingredients lists, digging in the Skin Deep Database and learning about chemicals and processes. They also rate well in the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics database and are responsible companies. [Key: Brand Name, ( Skin Deep rating range for baby items only, if available – Skin Deep ratings start at 0 being the best and goes up to 9 being the most hazardous)] Beware of the basics -paraben, fragrance, PEG’s, and propylene glycol. Read labels, know how to decipher the ingredients by reading our glossary and don’t be fooled by the word “natural” or “organic” on the label. We also realize everyone has their own standard of “greenness” and feel that there is a product to suit the needs of every child. If there is a brand you think is missing from this list, please contact me and let me know and I would be happy to review it for inclusion. When my daughter was born, I even brought my own body wash to the hospital and refused to let them use what they had on hand (most likely Johnson’s). more...

Moo Goo I use for myself and step son and is fantastic. I have been looking for a baby powder to use instead of one with talc in it and they have one. Gaia and Moogoo. Johnson and Johnson is really harsh, I get bright red spots on my skin after using their baby moisturiser.
