We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that, for most of us, our introduction to exfoliating was with the very same (and terrible) drugstore product. It features prescription-grade benzoyl peroxide that kills the bacteria that causes acne, plus exfoliating microbeads and essential fatty acids to hydrate and keep skin from getting scaly. We hate nothing more than an acne treatment that leaves our skin burning or peeling, so we're grateful for Skin Medica Acne Lotion Treatment ($52, skinmedica.com ), which gets rid of unsightly blemishes without the nasty side effects, leaving smooth, clear, well-moisturized skin in its wake. Whenever we're having a bad skin day (which is more often than we'd like to admit), we mix the powder with a little water, apply it to our face, wait 10 minutes, and then start peeling it off, which is unarguably the most enjoyable part of the process. It clears us up without fail every single time—you can thank the seaweed and tea tree extracts for that. The Philosophy Clear Days Ahead face wash ($20, sephora.com ) is one we tried years ago and have been meaning to get back to, since we remember how much better our skin looked with it. Micronized benzoyl peroxide is fast-penetrating to help clear pores and kill acne-causing bacteria, while lipo-hydroxy acid exfoliates the dead skin cells that can lead to flare-ups. The antiseptic moisturizer isn't makeup, but rather a skin-perfecting moisturizer, so you're able to wear it day and night. Sensitive skin and acne are a horrible combination, but we've finally discovered a product that's gentle enough to use. The Acne Free Sensitive Skin 24 Hour Acne Clearing System ($19.99, acnefree.com ) didn't clear us up in 24 hours exactly, but we were blemish-free 36 hours after using.
So, that said, what should you save on and what should you shell out a little cash for? "A daily moisturizer is really only there to form a barrier between your skin and the outside world," Joanna Vargas , celebrity facialist and founder of her eponymous salon, says. SAVE on cleanser: If you have normal skin with zero issues and you don't need your wash to have special skills, then you can save on your cleanser. "But, if you have trickier skin that breaks out easily or gets irritated, it's a good idea to invest in a formula that has ingredients that will benefit your specific skin type," Vargas says. If you splurge on a serum, your skin will be able to absorb so many good nutrients that will show the best result. "I even added chlorophyll and wheatgrass into the Daily Serum in my line because these two ingredients help to oxygenate the skin, making you look more youthful," she says. SPLURGE on anti-aging creams: If serums aren't your thing and you want to wear a cream to bed, Colbert says to splurge. "You'll want to look for a formula that contains vitamins E and C (they'll hydrate and brighten skin), a silk peptide (which helps build collagen), a retinoid (that helps regulate the exfoliation process so your pores and skin stays clear), or Qusome technology," he says. But, if you want to get a deeper exfoliation, you're going to need a product with heavy hitting chemical exfoliants that will penetrate into your skin and dissolve any oil build-up that's deep in your pores. Colbert suggests looking for exfoliators that contain glycolic or lactic acid to keep your pores and skin clear. She also suggests looking for a mask with arnica, which is anti-inflammatory, and yogurt to calm the skin. "Wrinkles are brought on by cell mutations and cells mutate from the sun and pollution, so if you can prevent your cells from mutating by feeding it the right vitamins, you won't get lines," Vargas says.

If you start out with a chalky, cakey or oily foundation, the rest of your look will likely crumble. But, just because you’re searching for the best foundation doesn’t mean you have to pay a hefty price. For girls with dry skin, using a liquid foundation may be the best way to go, hydrating as it covers. Most drugstores will allow you to return a just-opened foundation with the original packaging and receipt, even if you’ve used it. If you have to buy the foundation to try it at home, you can always return it if it’s the wrong color. Another trick for finding the best drugstore foundation for you? Whether you’ve got oily skin , you’re looking for your perfect color match or you need some SPF in your makeup (because everyone should be), we found a drugstore foundation that’ll be perfect for you, above.
We shopped in Superdrug and Primark for all these goodies with the prices ranging from 0.99p up to a maximum of £9.99. We played with a few different brands and thought we would share the hero and the zero products from each brand. The flutter Curl mascara (£4.95) was so dry and flaked off on application. They are the perfect texture, neither too dry or too wet and if you use a thin liner brush you can achieve a nice line that dries very quickly and lasts the day. The eyeshadows are absolutely amazing quality for the price. These blended well, colour payoff was excellent and they lasted well on the skin. The brighter colours are vibrant and if you like a really pale nude lip that almost represents a concealed lip look then you would love the paler shades. The tinted moisturiser (£9.99) felt light, creamy and gave a radiance to the skin. The cheek and lip tint (£6.50) is split into two colours of nude beige and soft coral. It disturbs the make up underneath when you blend it in and never really dries so it constantly feels tacky. The colour payoff is very sheer also so you can't really distinguish between the two different colours. Nice and moisturising for the lips though. Our overall conclusion is that there are some really great little gems from drugstore brands but you absolutely must test them before you buy to rule out the not so great products. It's really awesome that it's possible to buy a lipgloss for £1.00 but I do wonder of the quality of ingredients put into these products for companies to be able to produce and sell them so cheaply.
The main purpose of the toner is to tighten up the skin pores and it does that well. The skin looks instantly clear and bright. This cream mattifies the skin. The texture is buttery and it makes skin smooth. The mask has creamy consistency and feels nourishing on skin. This facewash gives a moisturising effect to the skin and makes it soft and hydrated. It also has a cooling effect on the skin. It exfoliates the skin mildly. The body wash moisturises the skin. It has the perfect consistency and spreads easily on skin. The lotion is non-greasy and blends easily in the skin.

They have it for sensitive skin too. I actually find I can cut the cloths into quarters and still have plenty to clean my face really well. I do take some uncut ones along as well – they are great for your whole body in the shower. They’re especially awesome for travel, as they are 3-1-1 friendly, and you can ever stash a few in your pocket to clean yourself up in the airport, a campground, etc… Here’s the link to a post I did reviewing the Olay cloths and some other TSA friendly, dry toiletries. You can get it all over the US and Asia (not sure about Europe or South America.) It is also great for your hair. I use the Olay facial moisturizer with SPF 15 …been using it for probably 6 years now and I love it. The Olay total effects gentle moisturiser with SPF 15 is wonderful for anyone with dry and sensitive skin. I always stock up on it when I’m in Asia as its 1/3 of the price compared to Australia (and the Aussie stock is from Indonesia anyway!) Been using it for many years now ~ Sarah Irwin. Thank you for the recommendations!
Just like how we always reach for those boyfriend jeans that are just the right amount of worn in, our drugstore makeup is never more than an arm’s length away. For the majority of us, our first lip glosses, eyeliners, mascaras, and concealers were all purchased at the local drugstore. We’ve grown up on drugstore beauty and through all the mistakes and learning processes, we’ve found the best products to suit our needs. It may be hard to believe, but there are quite a few R 29 staffers and professional makeup artists who will routinely reach for drugstore mascaras for longer, sexier lashes versus choosing the expensive stuff. It’s drugstore beauty all the way. If you need any more convincing, just check out our lineups of the hottest buys to find out what’s new, what’s out, and what’s best for you.

The truth is the essential products for good skin are usually available at most drugstores, and they certainly won't break the bank." Olay Pro-X Professional Advanced Cleansing System ($29.99, ulta.com ) and Neutrogena Wave Sonic Spinning Power Cleanser ($14.99, target.com ) cost a fraction of the Clarisonic's price, but will still make a difference and leave your skin cleaner than your hand or a washcloth can. Aquaphor Healing Ointment "I have a big jar of it on my nightstand and smaller tubes that I buy for my bag, my desk drawer in the office and my coat pocket. In many ways, Aquaphor ($14.99, walgreens.com ) is the ideal product: It's very inexpensive, and it works really well. Retinol Night Cream or Serum "Retinol is a proven ingredient to reverse sun damage and improve the appearance of fine lines. It is very important to use retinol only at night, because it increases sun sensitivity, and you should never apply a retinol to damp skin, because it will cause irritation. Remember, sun rays coming through a window can also damage the skin. The ingredients to look for are salicylic acid (especially good for acne-prone skin), alpha-hydroxy acids, or glycolic acid (recommended for sensitive skin). Stridex Daily Care Acne Pads ($7.94, walmart.com ) with salicylic acid are good, and so is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Clear Skin Cream ($14.99, cvs.com ), which contains both salicylic acid and retinol."
