So I was dismayed to find that, upon arriving at the airport for my return flight to New York, a smattering of freckles had appeared along my nose and cheeks. Dark spots, whether they show up immediately in the form of freckles or years later as the result of long-term sun damage, can be persistent and hard to treat. The result, of course, is that a full-blown beauty industry has sprung up around them. According to the New York–based dermatologist Patricia Wexler, M. In-office treatments are the quickest and most effective course of action. “It’s a great alternative to laser that works well on all [complexions], especially olive and dark,” says Wexler, who has seen a dramatic improvement after just one session. “Make sure to wear a high SPF and reapply it regularly,” says Wexler, who adds that “every two hours” is key because SPF breaks down quickly in the presence of UV rays.
There are a ton of whitening products in the Korean and Japanese skincare markets, and many of the multi-functioning products tout whitening properties as one of the major attributes. The nice thing about this layering technique is that you are not obligated to use Asian skincare products to do it. There are a lot of online shops as well as Amazon and Ebay sellers that carry Korean & Japanese skincare products. This is a list of online stores and sellers that I know carry authentic products from Korean and Japanese skincare brands. Wishtrend – Wishtrend is one of the first online Korean Beauty retailers to pop up on the scene, and they carry a large array of products from brands that are sometimes hard to find in other places. The selection is HUGE, products are authentic, and the prices are very, very low. They have a huge selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean skincare products. I Am Love Shop – Huge selection of Korean skincare products from most of the major brands, such as Etude House, Lioele, Missha, OST, Aritaum, Innisfree, Ciracle, and many others. Cosmetic Love on Amazon – This shop has a great variety of Korean cosmetics and skincare products, and the prices are very good. The Beauty Wolf – This is a newcomer to the beauty blogging scene covering a lot of Korean makeup and skincare products, as well as a few Western products.
Korean Skin Care and Skin Whitening. In Korea, people protect themselves from the sun. Korea, then Japan, then the US, then the UK. Skin cancer isn’t in the top ten in either Korea or Japan, but 5th and 4th in the US and UK, respectively. Anyhow, speaking of skin cancer, we mentioned in our video a bit about mole removal and how we got some of ours removed. Point is, we didn’t remove them for cosmetic purposes, but because we noticed that they were looking a bit irregular, and we know that can lead to health complications in the future. Quick, easy, painless, and TEN BUCKS! Just walked in to a place we were told about and got it done. Then again, procedures in Korea are pretty cheap compared to procedures elsewhere, probably because there are dermatologists and clinics just about everywhere. Are we wrong in thinking that people take better care of their skin here in Korea than in North America? One last thing we forgot to mention: a really cheap and easy way that Koreans take care of their skin so they can stay looking young and beautiful is – how could I have forgotten to mention this?
Ten Tips for Treating Acne on Asian Skin. Acne products that work on other skin types can be harmful for Asian skin. Treating acne on Asian skin presents special challenges that are often overlooked by the manufacturers of the most popular acne care products. The products that work on other skin types can be harmful for Asian skin. Here are ten useful tips for treating acne on Asian skin. Products that work for other skin types often can be harmful to Asian skin. People who have Asian skin types, and especially people who have Japanese skin types, are especially sensitive to detergents. The unfortunate reality is that when people with Asian skin tones use hydroquinone to remove brown spots on the skin left by acne, they often develop black and blue spots caused by onchronosis. If you have an Asian skin type, chances are that any product that leaves your skin feeling “tingly” can cause irritation and even brown spotting of the skin. Overexposure to the sun can leave brown spots on the skin, and so can acne. Tea tree oil is usually not a good idea for treating acne on Asian skin.
The average Korean woman has easily more than ten products in her daily skin-care routine, and the country's philosophy of good skin dates back to the Dongui Bogam, a Korean medical text from the 1600s. Green tea: This natural wonder has long been touted for its countless health and beauty benefits, and now Korean brand Amore Pacific has perfected the science behind cultivating and extracting the most powerful benefits of EGCG, an antioxidant only found in green tea. All of the EGCG comes from green tea grown in fields on the Korean island of Jeju, which has the optimal climate for the most potent tea leaves. Ginseng: Used in traditional Eastern medicine, ginseng has many health and beauty benefits and is only found naturally in a few places in the world; Korea's ginseng is prized the most. Airless pumps: Another skin-care innovation that has taken the Korean market by storm is airless dispensing pumps. What makes this sort of packaging so special is that it keeps the product from being contaminated and oxidized.
BB Creams For Dark Skin: What Brown Girls Should Know About This 'Miracle' Product. BB creams (short for "beauty balm" or "blemish balm") has been a complexion-perfecting secret among Asian women since the 1980s, but it was first introduced during the '50s in Germany as a postoperative treatment to heal and protect skin. And keep scrolling down to shop our roundup of nine BB creams that are available in medium to dark shades. What are the common skin care issues women of color experience that BB creams can tackle? "Depending on the ingredients, they provide high levels of sun protection, moisturize, can be used as a foundation and primer and may contain anti-aging properties such as antioxidants. The sunscreens in BB creams can prevent dark spots from getting darker and contribute to a more even skin tone." Ahmed adds, another common issue BB Creams can address is melasma , a darkening of the skin, generally on the face, that tends to occur on the forehead, cheeks, and upper lip. How do the ingredients found in BB creams improve or enhance darker skin tones? The main ingredient in BB creams that can benefit darker skin complexions is sunscreen. Sun is our biggest enemy when it comes to premature aging of the skin. If you look at the skin of two women who are in their 70s, one with skin of color and the other white, the one with skin of color almost always looks better. Is there validity in the multi-tasking claims attached to BB creams? My concern as a dermatologist though is that because BB creams contain concealers for light coverage, the recommended applications is a pea-sized amount to cover the face," explains Dr. Similarly, the small amount of moisturizer in a pea-sized application may not be enough for someone with dry or sensitive skin." And while some products advertise the ability to “regenerate” the skin, through research we know that retinoids (vitamin A) are the best ingredient to do this, says Dr.

Top Korean Skin Care Products. When it comes to skin care products, Korean skin care products are amongst the best. We’ll take a look at some of the best Korean skin care products on the market and how they can benefit you. SK II, though it is not made in Korea, is one of the most popular Korean skin care products to line the shelves. SK II is a line of skin care products that have proven effective and that really work – which is why these products also have a rather high price tag. This product features the Gingko leaf, an ingredient that will help protect your skin from pollutants and toxins. "Sunshine is an attack on the skin, and one way the skin defends itself is to make pigment," explains Ranella Hirsch, M. There's one way in which age spots are truly associated with passing years: The older most people get, the greater the amount of sun damage they've accumulated, so the spots are more numerous and more visible. Lentigines: Known as age or liver spots, these small-to-medium brown areas multiply as you get older, popping up most often on the face, hands, and chest — all places with maximum exposure to sun. This bleaching agent, available in department and drugstores or by prescription, works by interfering with an enzyme that helps your skin produce melanin, the brown pigment that shows up as spots. D., professor and chairman of the department of dermatology at Howard University. If you are sensitive to hydroquinone or prefer not to use it (see "Is Hydroquinone Safe?" below), you can improve the appearance of spots (probably less dramatically) with other over-the-counter treatments, including kojic acid, licorice extract, mulberry, vitamin C, and soy. "They do not all directly inhibit the enzyme that produces melanin, but they often produce results and are worth a try." But keep in mind that results will be more about radiance and evenness (think softer, less noticeable spots), and less about the pigmentation being completely bleached away, says Dr. "Sun exposure can trigger production of the pigment you are trying to eliminate — and almost any treated dark spot can recur if exposed to UV light." And, yes, you still need the stuff if you have darker skin. If you wish for an even more dramatic change, talk to your doctor about the in-office peels and laser treatments that are used to treat age spots — most also have a positive effect on texture. And last year, the FDA announced that it was reexamining the safety of hydroquinone. "Hydroquinone has been used over the last 40 years, and there has not been a single documented case of either skin cancer or internal cancer associated with it," says Dr. Hirsch: "When used as intended, and for a finite time, this drug is safe and is the most effective treatment available for pigmentation. The winner with both the testers and the doctor was Murad Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel ($58, Sephora).
This one is focused on my nighttime skincare routine, using all Korean skincare products, and following the typical Korean skincare routine. It’s wintertime now, so my skincare routine is focused on getting the most amount of moisture into my skin as possible. I use one pump and massage it into my slightly damp skin. I use this one when I feel like my skin is extra dry or dull, as it’s a very moisturizing toner. If it’s around that time of the month, or I feel like my skin might be having some issues, I use the AC Care Water Essence, which I reviewed here . Before Winter really hit, I was using the AC Care Bee’s Cure Serum and the Repair Complex as my serum and emulsion, but I found that my skin didn’t feel moisturized enough (winter is rough), so I switched to the Missha Super Aqua Marine Cell Intensive Serum and Control Emulsion. I pump the serum into my hands, rub them together and gently pat it on my face. My nighttime routine is when I pile on the moisture, so that’s why I use both a cream and sometimes a sleeping pack. I use the Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-Full Cream, which was totally an impulse buy after the sales woman tested a bit on my hand and I sort of melted. It’s perfect for people with dry skin, or for people who want a little moisture boost in the winter. I like this cream so much I actually use it in the daytime too. After applying my cream, I will sometimes opt to add just that extra layer of moisture and use my Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Deep Moisture Sleeping Pack. And I know some people may think that my skin must look like an oil spill by the time I go to bed, but nope. That’s the beauty of Korean products, they all seem to magically absorb into my skin, instead of just sitting on top of it.

What are the best skincare (korean) products for dry, hyper-pigmented, (I guess maybe sensitive) skin. Koreans have naturally great skin, so I can see the appeal to use their products or their routine, but it seems like they overdo it, not even just skincare, but with plastic surgery. I've never heard of a specific "korean skincare method"- I think what you are referring to is the fact that skincare is much more prevalent/popular in Asia, and many women there use 8+ products per day on their faces. I don't think that skincare is necessarily improved by using more products rather than the right products, but you will probably find that the more interested a person is in skincare, the more products they have (and use) on a daily basis. My favorite products often change out, since finding the right skincare for you can be a lot of trial and error. Also, some products might be out of your range- for example, I love Amore Pacific's moisturizer, but I don't love it enough to pay 3x the price of what I pay for my Origins Starting Over, and for how my skin is right now, that is fine. Kudos to finding a regimen and products you like for your skin! I think the extensive Korean skincare routine is a bit much, and because you don't know how certain ingredients will react to other products, I think it would be more beneficial to simplify your routine with very effective products instead of piling on many layers of products that might not absorb. If you find that you have overly sensitive skin, you can look into the Laneige Sensitive refiner and emulsion, which are gentler. I also used the Modern Friction, and that caused my skin to break out and get dark spots.

In the morning, you are allowed to skip the oil-based cleanser and just use the foaming cleanser since your skin is already pretty clean from the night before. Toner: I'm a toner scoffer and I don't think I've used one since my Sea Breeze days, but it's an intrinsic part of the process. Product: Be the Skin Botanical Pore Toner , $25. You've done all that work twice a day, so in order to maintain that dewiness you've achieved and "re-activate" the products, you must mist periodically. RATING THE REGIMEN: After a few days of fumbling, this regimen, with the exceptions I noted, became pretty routine for me. I have been battling hormonal breakouts for a while, and when I embarked on this regimen, they were finally starting to be controlled - I was really concerned that all this product would exacerbate the issue. I should note that this particular regimen was very expensive, because the products were from fairly high-end brands. And I love the two-step cleansing system and toner. Ditto the sleep mask and gel peel.
