The best combination of natural skin care options varies based on skin types: Switching to gentle and natural skin care options often goes a long way toward removing excess oil production, but in the meantime, there are some natural ingredients that can help prevent breakouts and remove excess oil. Moisturizing/Toning: Those with oily skin will need less moisturizing as skin adjusts, and often, the natural oils from oil cleansing are enough. Those with skin that is not typically oily or dry and that responds well to different types of products and makeup usually adjust very quickly to natural skin care options. My skin was more oily when I was younger and as I’ve transitioned to natural skin care options, it has become more “normal” so these are the options that I use: Those with dry or aging skin often benefit immediately from natural skin care options. Often, using natural oils on the skin helps the skin to balance oil production and stop being dry to begin with. The supplements that seemed to have made the biggest difference in skin health for me are: Fermented Cod Liver Oil – for the Vitamins A, D and K, Omega-3s and Antioxidants, all which are great for the skin. How To Best Take Care Of Your Skin At Night

According to researchers at the University of California-Irvine, new skin cells grow faster while you sleep , so a good evening facial routine should be a high priority. At night, the goal is to repair damage from the day's pollution, sun and stress, as well as to hydrate since you lose more water from your skin as you snooze , according to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Day and Julia Tzu, M. Start with a good cleansing to ensure you remove all makeup and build-up from the day. As such, she recommends using a cleansing brush like the Clarisonic or Olay Pro X along with a gentle face cleanser in lukewarm water to wash off dirt and oil. Tzu suggests using skincare products that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. They are, though, beneficial for opening pores so that active ingredients penetrate and easily absorb into the skin. Tzu instructs her patients to pat it dry and apply a small amount of retinoid all over the face. (Be sure to avoid the area around the eye, corners of your mouth and creases of the nose.) These creams work to brighten and heal the skin . "However, retinoids, especially those that are prescription strength, often dry the skin out. Put on a thick layer of moisturizer all over the face and neck. The biggest difference between daytime and nighttime moisturizers is that the former are lighter in consistency and often contain sunscreen. The consistency of nighttime moisturizers may not feel or look aesthetically pleasing to the user, but they make skin soft and supple. Day suggests reading the ingredients label for antioxidants, peptides and vitamins C and A to help repair the "insults" from the day. "[It] protects and hydrates the delicate skin of the eye," says Dr. more...

The Best Natural Skincare Regimen for Dry Skin

It’s easy to just say “oh whatever” if your skin is on the dry side of normal, but this attitude can have long-term consequences. Aging causes dry skin, because as we get older, the skin loses its ability to both produce and retain moisture (such as Hyaluronic Acid, which our skin naturally produces to keep itself plump and happy). Cold weather contributes to dry skin because the humidity level drops, and the water in our skin evaporates faster. Think about it: when you’re in the shower, your skin is swimming in hydration and it’s so happy about it. Apply a few pumps to the palms and massage into dry skin to polish and gently exfoliate, then rinse. This formula helps minimize pores while illuminating the skin and delivering a soft glow. Our Hydrating Floral Essence is something entirely different, and it’s especially perfect for dry skin types: its formula is packed with floral waters, humectants and Hyaluronic Acid, to both replenish moisture and help the skin trap hydration throughout the day, for an all-day hydrated feel. Spritz the bottle 4-5 times onto clean skin and neck – if your skin is especially dry, this is a great product to keep handy, to continually replenish moisture over makeup, and is ideal for dehydrating environments like airplanes. Apply three pumps over the entire face and neck, ideally when skin is still damp from the Floral Essence. For dry skin types or cold-weather climates, your daily moisturizer should deliver hydration to all levels of the skin, for an optimal moisture balance. This step is okay to skip during the summer, but it’s a game-changer for skin that’s feeling dry. Apply 4-5 drops of the Beautifying Face Oil to the skin, following your Moisturizer. Apply 2 pumps to freshly cleansed skin, to the entire face and neck just before bed, and massage in lightly. Another option is to layer it heavily on to the skin and to go to sleep with the thick layer over your face; you’ll wake up to a deeply moisturized complexion. more...

How To Care For Dry Skin - Paula's Choice

Why Your Skin Gets Dry. The primary reason your skin becomes dry is all about impairment. For the most part, this is due to sun damage and, to some extent, the use of skin-care products that contain irritating or drying ingredients. Have you ever noticed that the parts of your body that don't have sun damage (the parts of your body that are not routinely exposed to the sun) are rarely, if ever, dry (just look at the inside part of your arm or your derriere)? What dry skin needs is barrier-repairing ingredients that help it act younger so it can sustain a healthy water balance. Here are our best tips to stop the cycle of dry, uncomfortable skin: The next steps are to give your skin what it needs to act like it did before it was damaged by the sun. Are all just "moisturizers"): Moisturizers should be filled to the brim with antioxidants, ingredients that help skin hold on to water, skin-repairing ingredients, and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Don't forget your lips: Lips are the least capable of staying smooth and soft. Will Drinking Water Prevent Dry Skin? This is one of those beauty myths that refuses to go away, but here are the facts: Although drinking eight glasses of water a day is great for your body, it doesn't work to improve or reduce dry skin. If all it took to get rid of dry skin was drinking more water, then no one would have dry skin and moisturizers would stop being sold. Men’s Guide To Skin Care - Paging Dr. NerdLove

I still use the Protective Lotion occasionally when I don't have time to put on both the jojoba oil and sunscreen. If you have skin problems, going to a doctor and actually having things checked out can really help. I can have bad acne that makes my skin horribly inflamed and painful and the yogurt mask definitely helped calm it down. All that stuff in the various orange and white, or green and white, bottles, that basically has 2-3% salycilic acid in it and from my experience makes your skin feel nice to the touch but is about damn worthless for fighting acne or blemishes. In the winter (or for drier skin generally) you can just wipe it off instead of rinsing. But the benzoyl peroxide works well, especially if you put it on before you shower, and leave it on for about 5 minutes. I actually have fairly oily skin, especially on my face, so i need to try and find something for that. I have combination skin, so I only use it at night and moisturize in the morning, but if you have quite oily skin it might be good as a consistent face soap. Toner is bullshit for people with ordinary skin, but for the ordinary acne and flaky skin prone, a cleanser, lotion or sunscreen with salicylic acid or some other alpha hydroxy acid will help. Many of them are astringent and dry out or irritate the skin. Moisturiser: If you have combination skin, the oily areas don't need moisturiser.
