How To Make Your Own Natural Skin Cream

Firming Eye Cream Recipe - Primally Inspired

I love to come up with new recipes and just recently I posted a recipe for an Eye Firming Serum -I love this easy recipe-it’s a quick fix for wrinkles around the eyes. I decided to formulate a recipe for an eye CREAM-this eye cream is full of anti aging ingredients that will help long term but also the cream contains caffeine which will tighten and firm short term! It penetrates deeply into the lower layers of the skin where it regenerates cells and increases collagen production. Carrot Seed oil is healing and rejuvenates skin cells. Why I add it in this cream is for the smell. It helps to renew skin cells and rev up circulation. Vitamin E helps fight wrinkles and has a firming effect on the skin. Add green tea and Neo Defend to the other pot. Use a hand held blender (like this ONE ) and mix your cream. This cream is light and can be used morning and night. This cream is rich and fluffy and will absorb quickly and penetrate into the deeper levels of your skin. Taking care of the delicate skin around the eye is vital in preventing wrinkles and fading lines that have already appeared. Make your own face creams - Glenbrook Farm's Herbs and Such

A Cream is an “emulsion” of a water base and an oil base by use of an “emulsifier agent” to bind the two bases so they will not separate. The basic difference between a cream and a lotion is the amount/use of various oils and water base percentages to formulate a cream. In a Cream formulation, the water-base percentage is about 60-75 % and the oil-base is about 20-30 % of the total, with the other percentages being the emulsifier agent, preservatives and additives for a total of 100 % . For a All Natural Cream of the First type, one can use a Beeswax/borax combo as the emulsifier along with lecithin for a second emulsifier to bind the water and oil bases together. The water in the cream is suspended in the oil base. Or you can still use the beeswax/borax combination by using a 70-75 % water base for the cream. The oil in the cream is suspended in the water base. Oil base  –- Total Percentage =  32 % You can add stiffness to your cream by adding 1 % palm stearic acid to the oil base, decreasing the oil amount by 1 % as well. Oil base  –- Total Percentage = 20 %         I use Rose and oatmeal and rooibos  herbal water or just rose hydrosol as my water in the water-base for a soothing base. Note that the water base is increased, the oil base decreased to allow this cream to sink into the skin quickly, just as a lotion would do. Notes: For a body cream a “lighter” oil is used that absorbs quickly,  a higher percentage of water, a lower percentage of emulsifier for a light thin cream that will spread easily and absorb into skin quickly. For a stiffer body cream you can add .05 % kaolin clay as an additive, mixing your EO into the clay before adding to the cream and decrease the water base by .05 5 so as to keep the total percentage at 100 %. more...

How to Make Your Own Facial Moisturizer and Skin Cream

How to Make Your Own Facial Moisturizer and Skin Cream. Face cream and facial moisturizers: good nutrition for the face. Are you tired of expensive "designer" facial moisturizers and skin creams? To begin with, the ingredients that you add into your facial moisturizer and/or skin cream can be all natural and free of preservatives and dyes. If you are allergic to strong fragrances, you can make sure that your face and/or skin cream is completely fragrance-free. And yet, there are really only four basic skin cream elements in any kind of facial moisturizer or face cream. Used in a face cream, beeswax seals and protects the skin from nature's elements, including the wind, sun and cold. To determine which oils will work the best with your skin, try going to the cosmetics counter at your local natural foods store and applying several diluted essential oil samples to your skin. If you cannot sample the oils, ask the beautician which ones might best work on your skin. How do you know that an essential oil is working with your skin type? There is no reason why you cannot add fragrance oils into your skin cream to make it smell better. Once you have a uniform cream, remove the glass bowl from the pot of hot water and slowly pour in the distilled water. How to make a natural lotion, cream, moisturiser

If you live in the US you can use instead 70% isopropyl alcohol (walgreens and walmart sells). – In the US – lotioncrafter and theherbarie (there are others but for ease I’ve chosen these two as they do most/all of the ingredients):- A starting guide of how much emulsifier to use is to add it at 25% (one quarter) of the total of the oil soluble ingredients in your recipe. So if your oil soluble ingredients excluding the emulsifier totals 10% then you’ll be using 2.5% emulsifier. However if you are using lotionpro/lexemul add it at 15% (instead of 25%) of the total oil soluble ingredients, but do not add it below 3% in your actual recipe. Your lotion will last as long as the shortest shelf life ingredient. HUMECTANTS – draw water from the air to your skin, helps moisturise: glycerin (1%-7%) and sodium lactate (1-2%). The amount is whatever you need to make your recipe add up to a total of 100%. So if all your ingredients excluding water add up to 40% then your water % will be 60% as 60% is needed for the recipe to add up to 100%. If all your ingredients excluding water add up to 30% then your water % will be 70%. This is an antioxidant and so helps extend the life of your oils very slightly. Note the expiry date of each of your ingredients – the shelf life for your lotion will be that of the ingredient which will expire first. The recipes we are using are in grams and we will be making about 400 grams. Don’t forget to add an extra 10% water as at least 10% will evaporate during the 20 mins. more...

To start out, I researched a lot about natural skincare and learned about the oil cleansing method (where you actually use oil to cleanse your face), read about different kinds of oils, and found different resources for cosmetic compound developments. I decided that I wanted to try a combination of oil cleansing, all natural skin exfoliant, and the old fashioned method of using cold cream at night. The oil cleansing method relies on the theory that clean oil is the best way to draw out the dirt and oil that clogs pores. My next step in developing my own skincare was deciding what kinds of oil to use, I’ve read about the benefits of grape seed oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), and extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO) for your skin. I kept all of this in mind while developing my skincare routine, and still decided to stick with using extra virgin coconut oil on my face, while mixing it with other products. I still wanted to use coconut oil to cleanse my face, though, so I thought the best compromise would be to combine coconut oil with other elements to clean and exfoliate my skin. The natural skincare regimen I decided on starts out with the old housewife tradition of nightly removing makeup with cold cream. (read recipe below) To remove my makeup, I use my hand to apply the cold cream all over my face (except my eyes, more on that later), and then use a clean, slightly damp washcloth to wipe it all off. On days I don’t wear makeup, I just skip to the next step up gently scrubbing my face with the exfolient I made Then I apply a very light coat of the cold cream and allow it to sit greasily on my face all night, which softens my skin, reduces the appearance of scars and fine lines, and also reduces my skin’s tendency to overproduce oil. In the morning I just dab at my face with a warm, damp washcloth and apply my makeup as usual. I moisten a cotton ball with this solution, wipe it across my eyes until all of the makeup is removed, and then begin the rest of my skincare regimen as mentioned in the above paragraph. more...

Make Your Own Natural Lotion - Natural Health

Much of what you add to your lotion recipe is entirely up to you — you can mix and match liquid oils, add herbs and herbal tinctures, and scent your lotion with any essential oil you choose. The recipe I use to make my lotion is from a book titled Earthly Bodies and Heavenly Hair by Dina Falconi. Remove the measuring cup from the hot water and allow the mixture to cool to body temperature. While the oils are cooling, pour your distilled water into a measuring cup and place it in the hot-water bath to heat it to body temperature. When both the oils and the water have reached body temperature, pour the water into a blender or food processor, or pour it into a mixing bowl and use an immersion blender. Slowly add the oil mixture to the whirling water. Continue to process until the oil and water have blended together into a thick, creamy liquid. Add essential oils until your mixture smells the way you want it to smell. Pour the cream into clean, dry jars and let it set overnight. Store the cream out of direct heat and sunlight. You can double the batch for your whole family to use, or portion the lotion into attractive jars to give as gifts. Making your own lotion is a satisfying endeavour, and offers a sweet reward in the form of healthy, smooth skin. more...
