South Korean Skin Care Secrets - Cult Beauty Blog

South Korean women are renowned for their agelessly beautiful skin – but their flawlessness isn’t just down to good fortune, for many it’s hard-earned through a dedicated (and elaborate) skin care ritual, that makes even the most devoted ‘double-cleanser’ look as lazy as an adolescent boy. It’s taken a surprisingly long time, but western women are finally wising-up to the allure of Eastern beauty – and as usual, Cult Beauty are more than a few steps ahead of the masses. One step to take everything off, and another to eliminate any residual oils or grime which could compromise the efficacy of the products that come after. Firm believers in the motto ‘less is more’, South Korean women only physically exfoliate 2 – 3 times a month, gently buffing skin with black sugar (try Mizon’s { Honey Black Sugar Scrub }), to slough away dulling dead skin cells and refine skin texture. Applied to damp skin immediately after ‘refreshing’, essence often comes in sheet mask form – which creates a barrier to optimise the penetration of the actives and amplify the targeted effects. Caudalie’s { Polyphenol C 15 Anti-Wrinkle Defense Serum } is also ideal – bursting with grape polyphenols and brightening vitamin C – to keep skin protected from the elements without suffocating or exacerbating congestion. Look for the latest and greatest regenerative ingredients, such as starfish extract and snail secretion filtrate, to optimise cellular efficacy and stimulate collagen synthesis. {Day Cream} South Korean moisturisers are rich but easily absorbed – delivering intensive levels of day-long hydration alongside protective, regenerative and anti-ageing benefits. Yes, this dedication takes patience (and a little bit of getting used to), but your skin will quickly thank you for your efforts – and it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in some much-needed ‘me(zon)’ time. more...

Korean Skin Care and Makeup - POPSUGAR Beauty

Korean Skin Care and Makeup. Why You Should Ride the Korean Beauty Wave. The Korean beauty market is a prolific place for trends, from brightening skin care and BB creams to eyelash extensions and, yes, even plastic surgery. "And based off our feedback, I think other people are sharing this passion, too." After living in Seoul, Lee discovered the dedication Korean women have to their skin care routines, and she's sharing her insights on Korean beauty trends and what's in it for you. "For example, the Samsung and LG electronics, mobile phones, and TVs have built this trust with the Korean brand, so people in general have a growing trust in Korean goods. The emergence of luxury cosmetics like SK-II and Amore Pacific have also helped Asian skin care brands as well. And I also think in this globalized world where we have access to everything, people hear about Korean cosmetics and are interested in trying them." "A lot of the products that are popular in Korea are actually very inexpensive, and I think customers appreciate a midrange price for cosmetics. more...

The Missing Step In Your Skin - Care Routine

The stage following cleansing is called the treatment stage, which in Korea can include serums, essences, boosters, concentrates, and ampoules. Perhaps the biggest point of confusion is around serum and essence products. True essences are programmed with the goal of enriching skin and preparing it for oncoming products. Essences are applied in the same way as a serum: pumped or piped onto the fingertips and  gently slapped or pressed into the face. Serums, on the other hand, tend to be more concentrated and are used to target a specific purpose, which is why they usually come in smaller quantities and with higher price tags. Finally, a booster is meant to prep and prime the face so that following products have maximum efficacy. After testing the different products, I definitely wouldn’t find it necessary to use both a serum and an essence. I’ve used many products out there formulated to nourish and prep your face — some are called serums, and others essences, but their effects were the same. To keep it simple, they follow toner and precede moisturizer in the skin-care routine, and in function, they all aim to deposit nutrients into the skin. more...

Best Korean Beauty Products - 6 Amazing Skin Care Products

These badass gel-like blemish stickers keep you from picking at/popping your pimples and contain salicylic acid that helps break down dead skin and unplug clogged pores. To apply, peel the sticker from the backing sheet and pop it over your pimple before you go to sleep. First, you apply the blackhead/whitehead removal mask over clean skin, making sure it lays snug against your nose. During this step, the dead skin is broken down, which loosens the blackhead so it may be removed. OK, try not to get grossed out here, but snail mucus (the shiny slime that a snail leaves behind as it's going on its merry way) is actually super-hydrating to your skin: It promotes cellular turnover, it's healing, and it protects your skin's barrier from environmental elements like pollution, which is proven to break down collagen and elastin prematurely. "Putting this snail secretion-containing mask on your face will give you the results of going to a spa, but only in a matter of 15 minutes," Schook says. "Not only are you getting the hydration benefits from the snail mucus infused in the mask, there are other skin-plumping ingredients like glycerin, sea water, aloe extract, etc., that are being pushed deeper into your skin because a gel-like mask sits [and] sticks better onto the skin than a cloth mask." This heroic mask also contains ingredients like rosemary, which has antibacterial properties that help fight free radical damage (this can lead to premature aging and cell mutation, which can lead to skin cancer); melissa officinalis leaf extract, which is good for calming and brightening the skin; and hexapeptides that help build collagen. "This mask is fool-proof," Schook says, "because it won't dry out your skin if you leave it on too long, whereas cloth masks, once they deliver their ingredients and transfer the moisture onto your skin, can actually suck your own skin's moisture back out of your skin if left on too long, which is why you really have to stick to the time period that the packaging notates." This mask also contains shea butter, vitamin E, snail secretion, aloe, and beta-glucan, which is a yeast that dissolves dead skin cells. What's more, there isn't any water or fillers in this blend, which can breed bacteria over time; instead, glycerin is added to further hydrate the skin. more...

11 Korean Beauty Secrets You Should Definitely Know

Whether they’re born beautiful, or whether it is their beauty regime, we all cherish and idolize the radiant, acne-free, and flawless skin that Korean women possess. But what is the secret of their beautiful skin and can we get a flawless skin like them too? The main difference between the Korean skin care and the other skin care regimes is that Koreans are taught to take care of their skin right from childhood. They consider skin care as the ultimate investment and spend considerable time in taking care of it. A good skin care regime reduces the chances of unwanted blemishes and other skin problems and makes your skin radiant . Cleansing and exfoliating help remove the impurities from the skin and unclog the pores for a smooth and refreshed skin. Toning sets the skin after cleansing and exfoliating so that the skin absorbs the moisturizer well. They replenish and nourish the skin, and simultaneously, shrink the size of pores. This is what toners actually do – refresh the skin and set it for the next skin care regime. It helps to brighten the skin and preserve its elasticity. more...

Korean Skin Care Routine

Here are the steps for a typical Korean skin care routine: Most people think toners are useless/overkill/drying to the skin, but if you pick the right toner for your skin type, it will be well worth your money. While many Western toners are designed to simply balance your skin's p H levels, many Asian toners aim to do that AND hydrate the skin with nutrients. I like to think that this is THE product to use when you're unhappy or unsatisfied with your skin in someway. Okay, so emulsion may not be for everyone, so depending on the season and/or your skin type, you may or may not need to use am emulsion. If you have oily skin, you may not need to use emulsions in your daily skin care routine. That way, your skin can heal while you sleep (which is, by the way, super important to your skincare routine!), and you wake up with beautiful, radiant skin :) You would use the exfoliator or peel after your gentle cleanser and before your toner. Sheet masks are great for any skin types, and should be used depending on your skin type. Depending on the season, the condition of your skin, etc., you may want to use sheet masks 1-3 times a week. more...

Inside The Booming Korean Skincare Market - Fast Company

Inside The Booming Korean Skincare Market. Demanding consumers, R&D labs, and even the Korean government have helped bring foreign beauty products to Target and elsewhere. "Just sampling the products, I was like, ‘Wow, this is a whole new world,’" she says. The success of Korean beauty here is not intuitive. Park isn’t the first non-Asian to appreciate the wonders of Korean skincare. Since 2011, startups such as Momomango, Soko Glam, and Peach and Lily have launched to offer American consumers Asian beauty products from brands like Amorepacific, Aromatica, Be the Skin, Cremorlab, Dr. But interest in Korean skincare isn’t so much an American trend as the far-reaching ripples of a massive Korean beauty craze fed by competitive suppliers, a supportive government and, most of all, incredibly demanding consumers. Mass retailers say Korean beauty products were the next step in their quest to bring their customers the highest-quality products. The list goes on and on." Target, through a spokesperson, said it chose to exclusively sell 22 products from skincare brand Laneige after "comprehensive guest research" showed that "Korean skincare products are among the best in the world." Mary Schook, licensed aesthetician and owner of MS Apothecary , estimates this competitive atmosphere puts Korean beauty products 12 to 14 years ahead of the U. more...

Where To Buy Asian / Korean Skincare?? - Barely There

P 2bus : These guys have a store in London (and is just about the only store I can find in London that sells just Asian beauty products) in China Town, but they also have a website. Prices can be pretty high but that's really to be expected for the luxury of being able to see the products before you buy them. Whilst the range of products isn't as big, they stock some products from popular Korean/Asian drugstore brands such as Skinfood, Etude House, Innisfree and The Face Shop. Sasa : With over 270 stores and counters in Asia, Sasa's prices and shipping aren't the cheapest but they have a hugeeee amount of stock and ship to most countries in the world! Ebay: Ebay isn't my favourite place to buy Korean/Asian cosmetics because of the risk of unreliability but I have bought from these 2 sellers before and have had good experiences with both; each with pretty quick shipping and competitive prices: more...

New Splash Masks Korean Skin Care - Marie Claire

Basically, these splash masks are unlike any mask you've tried before, mainly because they come in liquid form and take all of 15 to 30 seconds to use (meaning that I could have been on time to those parties). The masks are a blend of botanical extracts and lactic acid, which helps to re-texturize your skin. To use this mask, you mix about a capful of the stuff with a bowl of water, and then splash (as the name suggests) the mixture on your face for under half a minute, rinse, and boom—you're done. If you are mess-prone or just really not into adding extra dirty dishes to the ever-growing pile in your sink, you can also take the mask into your shower, pour a capful of product into your palms, and pat onto your face for 20 seconds or so. The video below shows just how to use the mask, with music, graphics, and all. Results included soft, radiant, and glow-y skin, and the masks have been selling out at glowrecipe.com . Blithe Splash Masks come in soothing and healing green tea, (energizing) yellow citrus and honey, and rejuvenating purple berry, with green tea as the fan favorite. more...

Asian Skin Care Guide : The Korean Skin Care Routine

There are a ton of whitening products in the Korean and Japanese skincare markets, and many of the multi-functioning products tout whitening properties as one of the major attributes. The nice thing about this layering technique is that you are not obligated to use Asian skincare products to do it. There are a lot of online shops as well as Amazon and Ebay sellers that carry Korean & Japanese skincare products. This is a list of online stores and sellers that I know carry authentic products from Korean and Japanese skincare brands. Wishtrend – Wishtrend is one of the first online Korean Beauty retailers to pop up on the scene, and they carry a large array of products from brands that are sometimes hard to find in other places. Why I Love Korean Skin - Care : One Vogue Editor on Where to

In terms of beauty, we were diametrically opposed: Where I existed in the easy, low-maintenance, zero-to-one-step French skin-care camp, my roommate followed a strict, traditional Korean regimen of as many as ten serums, lotions, patches, and creams. Our respective shelves in the bathroom cabinet looked like two different planets—it was the first time I had ever looked at a shelf of beauty products and thought to myself, “What is all of this stuff?” The more I use the accessibly priced and adorably packaged K-beauty products, I realize that if skin care is considered a luxury in America, in Korea it’s a right, and they make it fun, which is why everyone is doing it. I’ve built an arsenal of facial mists, oils (both for cleansing and for moisturizing), face masks, sponges, serums, lotions, and masks for day, night, and a longer, more nourishing routine on the weekends. The trick, for me, has been figuring out which ingredients work best for my skin, and then finding the best products that contain those ingredients. One of the best parts about the surge in the popularity of Korean beauty is that now these products are so accessible: If you don’t want to place orders from stores halfway around the world and wait weeks for things to arrive, it’s as easy as getting on the New York City subway. If you’re going to embark on your own Korean beauty shopping excursion, and I recommend that you do, I can tell you that the best part about these stores are the people who work in them: expert women who will speak to you openly and enthusiastically about their skin-care routines. more...

Evening News

The latest imports from Korea—overnight treatment masks—promise to transform skin while you sleep. It's miserably cold and dry in the winter," he says with an agreeable smile, as he ushers me into Dr. "And in the summer, it's humid and terribly hot. "The extreme weather is why Korean skin care is so good at delivering intense hydration and balancing moisture levels." His words are music to my ears—my skin is parched year-round. Jart and Amore Pacific offer theirs at Sephora stores across the U. Overnight products that purport to be a facial in a jar, sleeping masks, are, essentially, exactly what they sound like: "You apply it on your skin, and it seals in moisture overnight. In the morning, you rinse it off and your skin is perfectly hydrated," says Sun Ju Kim, a researcher at Amore Pacific. At first impression, the formulas seem like supercharged gels: They're less viscous than traditional masks or most night creams; they disappear into skin upon contact, so you don't feel greasy, and there's nothing that rubs off onto your pillow. The evening hours are critical for skin, says Tom Mammone, Ph D, executive director of skin physiology and pharmacology at Clinique: "During the daytime hours, your skin is in a protective mode. It's fighting free radicals, blocking out pollution, and protecting skin from the elements. Blood flow increases, as does production of collagen—a protein found throughout the body and a crucial building block for skin. "The pros of increasing temperature are increased absorption and metabolism. Now I lightly tap the Clinique on my cheeks to revive skin from dry office air and, before parties, apply a few dabs under makeup for a sheer glow. more...

5 Fascinating Trends in Korean Skin Care - Skin and Tonics

There was a time when the harvesting of these birds nests from their natural caves was ecologically devastating, but the days of cave harvesting are over. I was able to find research backing the skincare benefit claims of some of the individual components of a bird’s nest, but could find no research in English that studied the bird’s nest as a whole in terms of skincare benefits. But if the skincare benefits are as real as they seem, I certainly don’t want to miss out. Bee venom has been used for years to treat arthritis, back pain, and rheumatism, but as a skincare ingredient, it’s still a newcomer. The idea is that the skin benefits from it because of a compound contained in the venom called “melitten.”  Melitten contains anti-inflammatory properties that are said to be stronger than hydrocortisone. I was unable to find a completed study specifically regarding the effects of bee venom in skincare. No doubt you’ve seen American products advertising stem cell technology, but the difference is that the stem cells in American products are plant derived. The skincare benefits of using these stem cells, sometimes called called RG 2, is increased cell regeneration and sun damage reversal. There have been many studies done on the efficacy of stem cell technology in skincare, and it looks as though the claims are true. Stem cell based skincare is huge in Korea, with many experts arguing that it’s the greatest innovation in skincare to date.  It has the potential to be huge here, but there is a lot of controversy over stem cell research and usage in this country. Most products featuring Syn-ake are serums, although there are some skincare lines that feature moisturizing creams and emulsions containing the compound. Like bee venom, Syn-ake is touted as a Botox alternative, but what sets it apart is that there have actually been studies done on its safety and efficacy. What I’ve learned from all this is that I apparently have no boundaries when it comes to skincare. more...

Korean Skin - Care Trends That Should Be On Your Beauty

The average Korean woman has easily more than ten products in her daily skin-care routine, and the country's philosophy of good skin dates back to the Dongui Bogam, a Korean medical text from the 1600s. Green tea: This natural wonder has long been touted for its countless health and beauty benefits, and now Korean brand Amore Pacific has perfected the science behind cultivating and extracting the most powerful benefits of EGCG, an antioxidant only found in green tea. All of the EGCG comes from green tea grown in fields on the Korean island of Jeju, which has the optimal climate for the most potent tea leaves. Ginseng: Used in traditional Eastern medicine, ginseng has many health and beauty benefits and is only found naturally in a few places in the world; Korea's ginseng is prized the most. Airless pumps: Another skin-care innovation that has taken the Korean market by storm is airless dispensing pumps. What makes this sort of packaging so special is that it keeps the product from being contaminated and oxidized. more...

BlovetBeauty : Korean Skin Care Secrets

Korean Skin Care Secrets. They are renown for their beauty and have made Korean beauties skin care highly sought after  :-)  KOREAN SKIN CARE: We shed dead cells less frequently and as such the skin starts looking dull due to cell build up. Do not undo all the effects of a  whitening skin care range by missing out on sunblock in the day. I would refrain from frequent facial massage, especially for problem skin types and young skin. I know some people attribute their clear skin to BB creams and its fantastic that they have found what works for them but there will be those few, like myself, who get cystic acne with BB Creams. BB creams and foundations probably enhance the skin by making it appear more radiant and healthy . Not every Korean woman has flawless skin and that goes for just about any country. Their Korean Drama Actors always have a thick slab of foundation/BB cream on their face, so its best not to be fooled and to know that even the beautiful use makeup to attain that flawless glowing skin. In the past I probably watched every Korean serial there was and it was pretty evident that they love their facial mask. Places like Korea with the different seasons and drier climate would require frequent moisturisation or moisture replenishment for non flaky, dewy,  radiant skin . For the hot tropics, I would say Fruit , Yogurt and clay mask would be safer bets for our naturally “oiler” skin. Do not tug at the skin or you risk wrinkles. Gd luck in the eternal quest for clear radiant Korean Looking Skin! more...
