There was a time when the harvesting of these birds nests from their natural caves was ecologically devastating, but the days of cave harvesting are over. I was able to find research backing the skincare benefit claims of some of the individual components of a bird’s nest, but could find no research in English that studied the bird’s nest as a whole in terms of skincare benefits. But if the skincare benefits are as real as they seem, I certainly don’t want to miss out. Bee venom has been used for years to treat arthritis, back pain, and rheumatism, but as a skincare ingredient, it’s still a newcomer. The idea is that the skin benefits from it because of a compound contained in the venom called “melitten.” Melitten contains anti-inflammatory properties that are said to be stronger than hydrocortisone. I was unable to find a completed study specifically regarding the effects of bee venom in skincare. No doubt you’ve seen American products advertising stem cell technology, but the difference is that the stem cells in American products are plant derived. The skincare benefits of using these stem cells, sometimes called called RG 2, is increased cell regeneration and sun damage reversal. There have been many studies done on the efficacy of stem cell technology in skincare, and it looks as though the claims are true. Stem cell based skincare is huge in Korea, with many experts arguing that it’s the greatest innovation in skincare to date. It has the potential to be huge here, but there is a lot of controversy over stem cell research and usage in this country. Most products featuring Syn-ake are serums, although there are some skincare lines that feature moisturizing creams and emulsions containing the compound. Like bee venom, Syn-ake is touted as a Botox alternative, but what sets it apart is that there have actually been studies done on its safety and efficacy. What I’ve learned from all this is that I apparently have no boundaries when it comes to skincare.

I started out with a Korean Traditional Anti-Aging facial – a luxurious and therapeutic session which involves the use of small hot stones to massage the face and stimulate cell metabolism. Although the hot stones were new to me, but what impressed me most throughout the 90 minutes session was the deft finger work of Han Myung Ok, who is Spa Scene’s beauty director with a wealth of experience running a successful facial salon in Korea and was even engaged by Korea’s parliamentary members for corporate functions. Instead, the hot stones were used to flush out toxins from the skin and rebalance the oils. Han also asked me if I wanted extraction of my blackheads and I noticed she was very very gentle and quick in the process. And by the end of the 90 minutes session, I felt wonderfully relaxed, refreshed and really wishing for the facial to be prolonged. The massage, which extended to my neck, shoulder, upper back and arms was the best I’ve ever experienced in a facial. My skin was also noticeably radiant and that radiance lasted me in the few days that followed. Besides the Korean Traditional Anti-Aging facial which is priced at S$188, customers who are not comfortable with the idea of having hot stones on their skin can try out Spa Scene’s Signature Anti-Aging Treatment which is at S$158 and also last for 90 minutes. Nicky was extremely thorough in the way he worked on my scalp and hair. And besides scalp treatments, the salon also offers hair cutting, perming and styling at quite an affordable rate beginning at S$55. Apart from their immaculate services, they also share skin and hair caring tips freely with their customers according to the skin conditions.

There are a ton of whitening products in the Korean and Japanese skincare markets, and many of the multi-functioning products tout whitening properties as one of the major attributes. The nice thing about this layering technique is that you are not obligated to use Asian skincare products to do it. There are a lot of online shops as well as Amazon and Ebay sellers that carry Korean & Japanese skincare products. This is a list of online stores and sellers that I know carry authentic products from Korean and Japanese skincare brands. Wishtrend – Wishtrend is one of the first online Korean Beauty retailers to pop up on the scene, and they carry a large array of products from brands that are sometimes hard to find in other places. The selection is HUGE, products are authentic, and the prices are very, very low. They have a huge selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean skincare products. I Am Love Shop – Huge selection of Korean skincare products from most of the major brands, such as Etude House, Lioele, Missha, OST, Aritaum, Innisfree, Ciracle, and many others. Cosmetic Love on Amazon – This shop has a great variety of Korean cosmetics and skincare products, and the prices are very good. The Beauty Wolf – This is a newcomer to the beauty blogging scene covering a lot of Korean makeup and skincare products, as well as a few Western products.
The Korean beauty market is booming and, having charmed the rest of Asia, the country's beauty companies are now looking to raise their profiles in other regions. In the districts boutiques and department stores, shoppers are as likely to hear Chinese and Japanese spoken as Korean, for South Korea is today a shopping magnet for tourists across the region. South Koreas cosmetics market has been one of the bright spots of the economy in 2008-2009. South Korea and its top trade partner, China, are now leading Asia out of recession; in the first half of this year South Korea had the fastest GDP growth in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development rich country zone) and its beauty sector is booming. Given the booming nature of the market and their strong market share, pundits are upbeat; Credit Suisse maintains an outperform rating for the two stocks. The remaining 31% of the market is made up of 600-700 small companies, though there are a few up and coming stars among them, such as The Face Shop franchise. In the early 1990s when international brands came in to Korea, everyone loved to buy them, but now the number one and two players are Korean; their products are proven, says an executive of an international brand in Seoul. This is the competitiveness of the Korean market. That said, the market is open to global producers; unlike, say, pharmaceuticals and autos which, foreign importers allege, are subject to numerous barriers. Skin care is the dominant category, particularly with regard to moisturising and whitening products. This trend is hot in the market right now and will get bigger in coming years. The majority of its products were priced around Won 7,000, and its packaging and natural ingredients won plaudits.
While it might come as a surprise to some people, the fact of the matter is that Korean Skin Care Brands have proven their commitment to quality already. No wonder, an increasingly large number of consumers from the West are now hooked on to top Korean Skin Care Brands including Caviar and Missha among others. A large number of consumers now attribute their clear and flawless skin to Korean skincare products. While you too may want to be all groomed up, head to toe, by choosing the top Korean skin care brands, it’s important not to forget the fundamental secrets of Korean skincare. Here’s a compilation of useful skincare secrets that you can use in combination of a fine blend of different skin care products from Korea: Use a combination of the branded Korean skin care products – Korean women, who use more than a dozen skin care products (for everything from whitening and healing to quick makeup) should be your inspiration. Make it a point to procure only the best skin care products. As long as you stick to the best skin care Korean brands, choosing the right sunscreen product shouldn’t be hard. For a typical skin care product, you can follow the standard ‘Cleansing, toning and finally, moisturizing’ cycle. Use masks, sheets or face packs – While some products (Korean BB creams, for example) have been derived from other countries and refined to make them perfect for a Korean skin care regime, many other skincare solutions in South Korea have been tried and tested for centuries. At MTS Rollers , we help you procure products from the best Korean skin care brands at an affordable price.
Basically, these splash masks are unlike any mask you've tried before, mainly because they come in liquid form and take all of 15 to 30 seconds to use (meaning that I could have been on time to those parties). The masks are a blend of botanical extracts and lactic acid, which helps to re-texturize your skin. To use this mask, you mix about a capful of the stuff with a bowl of water, and then splash (as the name suggests) the mixture on your face for under half a minute, rinse, and boom—you're done. If you are mess-prone or just really not into adding extra dirty dishes to the ever-growing pile in your sink, you can also take the mask into your shower, pour a capful of product into your palms, and pat onto your face for 20 seconds or so. The video below shows just how to use the mask, with music, graphics, and all. Results included soft, radiant, and glow-y skin, and the masks have been selling out at glowrecipe.com . Blithe Splash Masks come in soothing and healing green tea, (energizing) yellow citrus and honey, and rejuvenating purple berry, with green tea as the fan favorite.
