My Skincare Routine For Acne Scars

How To Put Together a Skincare Routine - Paula's Choice

Knowing what products work together, how they benefit your skin, and the order in which to use them is incredibly important when selecting the best skincare routine for you. The information below is designed to help you select a Paula's Choice Essential or Advanced skincare routine or to custom-select products based on what works best for you and your specific skin concerns, step by step! When your face is clean, it allows the other products you use to work even better, morning and evening. With a Paula's Choice cleanser, your skin will look and act healthier, feel smoother, and be ready to receive maximum benefits from your other products. With a Paula's Choice toner, your skin will feel softer and look smoother, and redness will be reduced. Acne and oily skin complicate this further. Overnight your skin will look radiant, smoother, and younger (really)! Your skin tone will be more even and radiant. Paula's Choice treatment serums with antioxidants improve your skin in numerous ways, from reducing redness to stimulating healthy collagen production and improving the appearance of wrinkles. Immediately, your skin will feel smoother and look radiant. With twice-daily use, signs of damage will fade and your skin will look and behave healthier and visibly younger. more...

Korean Skin Care Routine

Here are the steps for a typical Korean skin care routine: Most people think toners are useless/overkill/drying to the skin, but if you pick the right toner for your skin type, it will be well worth your money. While many Western toners are designed to simply balance your skin's p H levels, many Asian toners aim to do that AND hydrate the skin with nutrients. I like to think that this is THE product to use when you're unhappy or unsatisfied with your skin in someway. Okay, so emulsion may not be for everyone, so depending on the season and/or your skin type, you may or may not need to use am emulsion. If you have oily skin, you may not need to use emulsions in your daily skin care routine. That way, your skin can heal while you sleep (which is, by the way, super important to your skincare routine!), and you wake up with beautiful, radiant skin :) You would use the exfoliator or peel after your gentle cleanser and before your toner. Sheet masks are great for any skin types, and should be used depending on your skin type. Depending on the season, the condition of your skin, etc., you may want to use sheet masks 1-3 times a week. more...

BITSDIARIES about BEAUTY and ACNE : My Acne Story

My Acne Story. I am re-writing + re-sharing my (past) acne story because some of you readers have requested for more information. If you have read my previous post on "My Acne Story", which has currently been replaced by this post, you already know how bad my acne was in the past. Let me share with you My Acne Story . I still remember it was Year 2009, somewhere in November-December, my acne started to deteriorate from mild to moderate. Before my acne became worse, my life routine was flipped upside-down and messed up. As I was a newbie and had completely zero knowledge on beauty stuff, I have no idea what to use so I just randomly bought and tried some skin care products from the drugstores. I panicked each day when my acne seemed to get worse and worse instead of getting better. And I felt even more depressed when people commented about my acne. It may not be the most worst acne case on Earth but to me, it was a nightmare. I switched to a skin care routine with products that were suitable for my skin type and after many trials and errors, my acne started improving. However, my skin was left with tons of red, brown acne marks/scars. If you would like to know what products I used to heal my acne, please visit " My Skin Care Routine " page. more...

My skin care routine - 6 tips to get rid of acne for good

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve struggled with cystic and hormonal acne since my senior year of high school and I have the lovely scars to prove it. I still love makeup and wear it when we go to dinner or out with friends, but during the day, I usually only wear mascara. Here is my regimen for sensitive and acne-prone skin: And you don’t have to buy this brand — just compare the ingredients and find something else you like. Thanks for sharing and I absolutely agree with all of your tips! I have had problems with acne in the past but I’m getting old enough now (almost 35) that my skin is dry in some places and I was drying it out too much with acne cleansers, so I have switched to a gentle Neutrogena one with one of their oil-free moisturizers and that has helped me a lot. Thanks for the post! I do the same things with napkins – and thought I was the only one! So happy for you that you have found the products that work for you! Thanks so much for the awesome tips and for the product reviews it is very helpful for those of us that suffer from acne. I use to be on a routine with my derm, but I had a baby and am still nursing so those things are not good for me. The products for oily/hormonal skin are excellent. Thanks for sharing those tips and the products you use – I haven’t heard of most of those products so I might need to try a few out :) Oil can clog the skin and if you want to reduce the number of acne breakouts you get, you have to stay away from oil based cosmetics. more...

But because each and every one of those suckers left a scar, it pretty much looked like I had them all over my face by the time I was 24. My skin finally calmed down by the time I had my daughter (age 26), but I was left with horrible scars, discoloration and dullness. Even though improvements were made, I still had to find skincare products that kept my skin going in the right direction and not turn it into a habitat for nasty zits! THE SKINCARE PRODUCTS THAT WORK UBBER WELL WITH MY SENSITIVE ACNE PRONE SKIN. If I'm washing my face in the morning or not wearing any makeup I will wash my face with this once. And even when I wash my face twice with it, my skin never feels tight! The last two products are my moisturizer and "night serum", so I never use these together. I won't go into too many details because I plan on doing a separate post on this oil but I know this is the #1 reason my skin looks and feel so much better! I used to wake up with 5 or 6 brown spots in my face and freak out my daughter in the morning. more...

SKINCARE ROUTINE : OILY, SENSITIVE, ACNE - PRONE SKIN

I have extremely oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin. I had to revamp my skincare regime to fit this new skin type and I have finally perfected a routine that works for me. The following products have gotten my skin clear and back on track! Overview: I have been using this product since high school and it has worked quite well for me. I love using this silicone pad because it gives the product a nice lather and works well to gently massage my skin. Formulation: This product contains Apricot Extract and 2% Salicylic Acid making it a great product for acne prone skin. Adding this specific toner to my regime has helped even out my skin tone, and cut down on the healing time of my scars. Overview: I really have to thank this product for clearing up my skin. It absorbs well into the skin and doesn’t have a drying affect. This product is really gentle and is great to keep that mild acne at bay. I would also recommend using this every few days in the beginning, so your skin can slowly get accustomed and not overly irritated. It is also fragrance free and non-comedogenic, making it a well-rounded product especially for those of you with sensitive and oily skin. I hope this helps those of you with a similar skin type. more...

From Head To Toe : My Skincare Routine

I feel like this skincare post has been the most requested one out of anything I could possibly post about, even if I posted just pics of puppies and squirrels. And we all know how popular the last squirrel post was. This comes from a combination of good hydration, sunscreen, and proper exfoliation which could be either from a physical scrub or something like the Clarisonic, or it could be from a chemical like a retinoid (like Differin) which is what I use. I really believe there's no magic to achieving your ideal skin, but it is really important to exfoliate, moisturize, and protect your skin. Your skin may not feel dry but there will be wrinkles appearing on the forehead and around the eyes. Thankfully, there are really inexpensive products that work well like my HG Eucerin Everyday Protection which is oil-free so it won't break me out. It also already contains spf 30 so it protects against the evils of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Post-acne dark spots or what some people call "scars" are actually exacerbated by exposure to the sun so if you are someone who has battled hyperpigmentation and wonders why it takes so long to go away, consider that you may be able to avoid it getting as dark in the first place with this 1 small step! I won't completely prevent the spots but they do seem to not get as dark and they fade faster as well. Sometimes it's really the simple things that work the best: products that don't have too much extra junk in them, sticking with a consistent routine, and living a healthy life in general. more...

How to Create the Perfect Acne Skin Care Routine

You can create an acne skin care routine with whatever brand products you choose. A good acne skin care routine is so important for blemish-prone skin. But your daily acne skin care routine doesn't need to take a lot of time - just a few minutes twice a day. Follow the guidelines below to help keep your skin feeling refreshed and clean. Make sure you're using the right cleanser for your skin. Harsh soaps won't clear your acne, but they will irritate your skin. Alcohol-free products are the best choices if your skin is irritated by acne treatments or if you have lots of open pimples. But if toners or astringents seem to over-dry or irritate your skin, don’t use them. Ditto if you're using prescription acne medications (they already dry out your skin). You aren't going to harm your skin by not using a toner . Step 3: Apply your acne treatment medications. Many acne medications over-dry the skin, leaving the skin thirsty for moisture. Now that you've got your daily skin care routine down, let's get you an effective acne treatment plan to go along with it. more...

The All - Organic Skincare Routine - Into The Gloss

Everything here with an asterisk (*) is an actual, government certified organic product, and of the non-USDA products, two are from the EU and certified organic there, one is just an actual plant, and another only contains one non-certified ingredient. And if you have additional product suggestions, I'd love to see them in the comments! I use John Masters Organics Lavender Hydrating Mist * because it has The Perfect Spray™. Organic brands are notorious for having terrible packaging, but not the John Masters atomizer; it's a delight to use. I like to imagine the Chanel lavender farmers and Choupette applauding politely every time I spray. I'm hooked on the mango sorbet-colored Calendula Coconut Oil from Kuumba *. After that, I wet a muslin washcloth in warm water and gently work the oil off. I'm a wuss with exfoliation—you're supposed to treat your face like silk, after all—so I bring out the konjac sponge for daily decongesting and brightening. If my skin is dry, the way it was every damn day this NY winter and nonexistent spring, the next step is rose hip oil *. It's 1) deeply hydrating, and 2) deeply orange—like natural self-tanner without the risk of becoming a human tangerine. I have dry skin, so I use the Supple Sunshine Rosemary Lavender Day Cream *. I've known about neem for years, but the concentrated oil has a nuanced bouquet reminiscent of rancid diesel fuel, so I'd avoided putting it directly on my face. It started healing up the spots on my neck and jaw overnight, and unlike tea tree oil it's not drying. All its ingredients except the immortelle oil are certified organic, so this one doesn't quite make the USDA cut, but it's amazing and I felt the brand attempts to be as organic as possible, so I included it. Their day cream and rose hip oil are both fantastic, but for the purposes of this story, I wanted to focus on their Echium & Argan Gentle Eye Cream . more...

KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE 2015 FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE 2015 FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN. Many had actually emailed me and asked me to recommend products for acne prone skin.  Actually I am not in a position to tell what you should buy because I haven't get to try all the products in the world as well as my limited knowledge to what I had tried and what works for me. I am actually already in my late 20s so the type of skincare products I used are different from teenagers because adult skin can't take any harsh beating. more...

My Daily Skin Care Routine - 2/10/14

I have oily/combination skin, as most Asians do, and where I come from the winter is very drying for my skin. A plus of this cleanser is that it is made without parabens, sulfates, and phthlates, so it is gentle on the skin. Tea is also known to soothe and calm the skin. This toner is really good for winter AND summer because it soothes redness and fights pimples without over-drying your skin. I would be cautious if you're someone with dry or sensitive skin, as the tea tree may be a bit too drying for dry skin and may be a bit strong for sensitive skin. The grapefruit water contains a lot of Vitamin C, which brightens your complexion and promotes collagen production, which is essential for youthful skin. Due to grapefruit's fruit acidity, this ingredient also has antibacterial properties, and is good for controlling oil production. I recommend this product for everyone and anyone. I think this stuff is a miracle-maker, and it has worked amazingly for me. This moisturizer is heavily endorsed by my K-idol, Bae Suzy, and is awesome for the hot and humid summer season. Vitamin B 3 is responsible for soothing the skin with its anti-inflammatory properties and zinc helps to control oil production. Personally, I think it is a bit heavy to use as a morning moisturizer in the summer because I have oily skin, but if you have dry skin or even normal skin, then this may work well for you. Some emulsions are more watery than this one, but I was between choosing this emulsion and the cream from the same IOPE line. Locust tree flower helps to soothe and calm inflammation of the skin. Tea tree leaf oil is one of the best natural remedies for acne, as it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. more...

Skin Care and A Routine

If you have to touch your face, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water - or alternatively, use a face towel. Determine your skin type and buy skin care products to suit your skin type. This is an incredibly important step because if you buy products that aren't appropriate for your skin, they will be incredibly ineffective, and may worsen the situation. Dry Skin-If your skin feels very tight and is noticeably flaky in areas, then you have dry skin. If your face is visibly shiny, and literally feels slightly wet to the touch then you have oily skin. If you have oily skin, you should tone, exfoliate, use a spot treatment, and lightly moisturize once in a while. If you have combination skin, you tend to get oily around your nose, chin, and forehead area, and dry around your cheeks. If you have sensitive skin, use a moisturizer, cleanser, and spot treatment all suitable for sensitive skin. Apply the cleanser and massage it into your skin in upwards, circular motions. By restoring your skin to its natural p H, you also make it more resistant against bacteria and micro-organisms. So after cleansing and toning you should moisturize with a face moisturizer for your skin type. If you haven't applied enough moisturizer and your skin still feels a little tight, then apply a bit more. Your skin needs to get used to the frequency of being treated, and to the products you're using. more...

The Korean Skincare Answer To Acne - Into The Gloss

Wonwoo Choi at Wells Dermatology and Medical Spa in Gangnam, Seoul, when I was in Korea for the summer. But after one consultation (followed by two months of relatively rigorous treatment), I learned that ridding yourself of acne without destroying your skin in the process takes work—serious work. Gently massage face with a serum that hydrates and nourishes the skin. A chilled calming mask is used to soothe the irritated skin. The coolness of the mask helps to calm irritated skin. A mask pack is used to tighten the pores and further calm the skin. The whole process is wrapped up with a Korean skincare routine . Choi is an artist, in addition to a really good dermatologist, several weeks of facials were followed with brightening laser treatments and UV treatments that serve to rid the skin of any acne scarring. Immediately after these laser treatments, a similar process as the one above is used to nourish the skin. The difference lies in the vitamin C—they have brightening and cell-regenerating benefits, but is not easily absorbed by the skin through simple serums or creams. But knowing how to handle it is the first step in actually caring for your skin. more...

My Korean skincare routine for dry, acne - prone skin

My Korean skincare routine for dry, acne-prone skin. My skin was softer, less dry, and less flaky. Not only does my skin feel rougher and flakier, but my pores, comedones, and blackheads get larger. Using these pads has helped refine my skin texture and keep my blackheads in check. It doesn’t seem to do much except make my skin somewhat softer, though still not as much as the horse oil serum did (which I will talk about in a second!) But for the sake of completion, this is the toner I am currently using. It hasn’t made my skin much softer since then, but that’s okay—for softness, let’s go to the next product! 5.) Guerisson 9-Complex Essence: for major skin softening! Within the first few days, my skin felt like velvet–yes, velvet! 6.) Guerisson 9-Complex Cream: for helping my dry skin in general (review here) This is the infamous horse oil cream that I love and will be ordering a second jar of very soon! My skin generates a bit of sebum on its own and I no longer feel dry throughout the day. Smoother and softer skin overall. Now, that’s not to say that my skin is perfect! more...

My Current Indian Skin Care Routine for Acne Prone Skin

My skin is highly acne prone, although over the years it has calmed down quite a bit and I don’t break out as easily. The problem with anti-ageing products is that they are often too emollient and cause breakouts. As my skin has calmed down, I am gradually moving on from hard-to-find, medicated and boutique products (I’m looking at you Avene Triacneal ) to drugstore products that I can pick up while running errands. I don’t care for its artificial fragrance (smells like an incense stick) and the non-existent ingredient list, but out of the limited options, this face wash wins. It is an alcohol-free toner that doesn’t irritate the skin. It claims to even out skin tone, but I haven’t been able to figure how much it has helped since I use other products to do that. Between Alba Botanica and the essence, my face feels lightly moisturized and ready for treatment products. It is not a moisturizer technically, but a humectant that pulls moisture to the skin. After over a month of twice-a-day use, it hasn’t been able to fully fade 2-3 light pimple marks on my face but has evened out the skin tone quite a bit. This product comes with a lot of claims and is but a decent eye cream. more...

Funny Face Beauty : My Skincare Routine for 'Curing' Acne

Well, I am beyond excited (ecstatic really) to tell you that I've finally found a skincare routine that has not only helped reduce the number of breakouts I get (hardly any), but has also helped in giving me a smooth, less bumpy and more even skin tone. I can't sit here and say that my newfound skincare routine will work for everyone dealing with the same skin issues I have dealt with. What I can say is the products I use on a daily basis have really helped me, and if you too are struggling with acne, oily skin, uneven skin tone, etc., I think they are at least worth a second glance. Below are all of the skin care products I currently use:  Not only is this micellaire water perfect for sensitive skin (like mine), it does an amazing job of removing all traces of makeup from the face (something that is very important for those struggling with acne). Formulated with 2% pharmaceutical grade Salicylic Acid, Skin TX Medicated Acne Wash deeply cleanses pores to remove impurities and reduce the number of breakouts one gets. I use this alcohol and oil-free wash once in the morning and once at night and found it really helped 'cure me' of cystic acne. I use this solution both day and night after cleansing with the TX Skincare face wash and have found it reaches deep into pores removing any impurities not touched by my makeup remover and face  wash. Made for skin that has been irritated and dehydrated from intense acne treatments, Avene's 'Clean-Ac Hydrating Cream' has helped sooth and hydrate my dry flaky areas while controlling my oily skin and reducing the number of breakouts I get. I use one pump of this product at night (after using Solution I) and have found a HUGE difference in terms of the way my skin both looks and feels. Unfortunately this routine will not work for everyone (don't you hate that), but if you are dealing with similar skin issues, I definitely think any of the above products are worth a try. more...
