Asian Skin Care Guide : The Korean Skin Care Routine

There are a ton of whitening products in the Korean and Japanese skincare markets, and many of the multi-functioning products tout whitening properties as one of the major attributes. My Updated Korean Skincare Routine - The Wanderlust Project

This one is focused on my nighttime skincare routine, using all Korean skincare products, and following the typical Korean skincare routine. It’s wintertime now, so my skincare routine is focused on getting the most amount of moisture into my skin as possible. I use one pump and massage it into my slightly damp skin. I use this one when I feel like my skin is extra dry or dull, as it’s a very moisturizing toner. If it’s around that time of the month, or I feel like my skin might be having some issues, I use the AC Care Water Essence, which I reviewed here . Before Winter really hit, I was using the AC Care Bee’s Cure Serum and the Repair Complex as my serum and emulsion, but I found that my skin didn’t feel moisturized enough (winter is rough), so I switched to the Missha Super Aqua Marine Cell Intensive Serum and Control Emulsion. I pump the serum into my hands, rub them together and gently pat it on my face. My nighttime routine is when I pile on the moisture, so that’s why I use both a cream and sometimes a sleeping pack. I use the Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-Full Cream, which was totally an impulse buy after the sales woman tested a bit on my hand and I sort of melted. It’s perfect for people with dry skin, or for people who want a little moisture boost in the winter. I like this cream so much I actually use it in the daytime too. After applying my cream, I will sometimes opt to add just that extra layer of moisture and use my Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Deep Moisture Sleeping Pack. And I know some people may think that my skin must look like an oil spill by the time I go to bed, but nope. That’s the beauty of Korean products, they all seem to magically absorb into my skin, instead of just sitting on top of it. more...

Korean Skin Care — The Dermatology Review

Korean Skin Care. When it comes to Korean skin care, the women from this region have hundreds of years of history with caring for the skin in ways that get rid of wrinkles and create supple skin. Typical Korean skin care products contain a wide array of natural and exotic ingredients to maintain healthy skin. Basics of Korean Skin Care. In a typical Korean skin care routine the day should begin with drinking a tall glass of water, followed by an invigorating facial wash. A key ingredient in many Korean skin care products is snail slime. Birds nest is another ingredient in many Korean skin care products. The syn-ake line of beauty products in Korean skin care is an alternative version of what we know as Botox in the United States. Syn-ake does not need to be applied through injections, and is an ingredient in facial serums in Korean skin care products. In Korean skin care, bee venom has many of the same properties as syn-ake. Bee venom is often applied to the skin topically, as an ingredient in creams and moisturizers. more...

From a truly cool under-eye bag treatment to a now-popular Korean import, here are the five most newsworthy skin care moments from the past year: The uber-trendy skin care additive this year can likely be found in your grandma’s back yard. Additionally, because of the physical qualities of Voluma, dermatologists can use it for sculpting and lifting because it’s so malleable and easy to work with. Oils can protect skin from free radicals, moisturize, and even theoretically help whatever skin care product you apply after the oil to absorb better. L’Oreal Paris released its Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil this year, the first mass market brand to do so, thus cementing facial oil’s slippery hold on the skin care market. Interest in the Korean skin care regimen has really picked up here in the U. Over the last year, and sheet masks are an accessible way to try out the trend. You open the package, unfold it, put it on, and then basically lie on your couch and luxuriate in it for 20 minutes. more...

Your Beginner's Guide to Understanding Asian Skincare

From the main differences between Asian and American skin products, to their predictions on the “next big thing” from Asia to take the U. When asked about the main difference between Asian and American beauty products, Yoon and Kim both referred to the influence of the consumer. Kim says that Korean women are very demanding about the products they use on their skin, mainly because they’re more well-versed about skincare than the average American women. “What’s interesting is that—like in any eco-system—you’re only going to be as good as your consumers are demanding, and Korean consumers are the most demanding globally,” Yoon says. She mentions that a lot of outside brands will use Korea as a testing ground for new products: “If you can meet the Korean “bar,” your product can succeed anywhere else in the world.” In other words, since Asian consumers demand and expect more, their products often deliver more. Another big difference between Western beauty products and their Korean and Japanese counterparts are the ingredients. She explains how Korean women will immediately notice if a certain product is filled with cheap ingredients or harsh chemicals, and that they tend to favor more natural ingredients—one reason why botanical-based products are so popular in Asia. “It’s not an obsession with looking young—it’s more the belief that if you respect your skin, it will respect you back and reward you with a beautiful complexion for a long time.” Though they run the full price spectrum, she says that the value you see in Korean products are usually better than with other countries. “Because of the way consumers look for things, brands can’t get away with using cheaper ingredients and hiking up the prices,” she says. Since Yoon and Kim are constantly traveling to Asia to learn about new products and innovations, we asked them to share what they think the next “big thing” in beauty will be to hit the U. Plus, keep clicking the slideshow above for the groundbreaking Korean and Japanese products you NEED to know about! more...

A Beginner's Guide to Korean Makeup - Into The Gloss

So, we asked Cho — who also runs the e-commerce site Soko Glam — to give us a rundown of her current favorite overseas products and a few predictions for the “next BB cream.” You heard it here first, people. They’ve dominated the skincare game for, like, centuries, but it wasn't until Koreans incepted, perfected, and popularized BB cream that cosmetics companies throughout the world have been hawk-eyeing their makeup innovations, too. Which is to say, if it’s big in Korea, you can bet that it’s going to be the next billion-dollar global product. The Liner. Nary an eye goes unlined in Korea, so our liner formulas need to pass the test of both the dreaded monsoon season and sub-zero Seoul winters. The Eyebrow Pencil. I prefer the sheer brown color and angled application of Design My Eyebrow Pencil from The Faceshop , that twists up so you never have to sharpen it. The Lip Tint. To recreate the allusion, you can dab Etude House Cherry Tint [ed note: discontinued] or, for an orange-y red, Tony Moly Cat Chu Wink [ed note: discontinued] at the center of your lips. Like all Korean lip tints, both products are adorably packaged (did you miss the cat ears on Tony's?) and smell and taste like jellybeans. The Next Big Thing. This is the next BB cream. more...

Top Four Trends in Skin Care in 2015

While new product development in skin care has been as active as ever in 2014, it was Estée Lauder’s acquisition sprint that stole the limelight. After a couple of inactive years, the premium player acquired two US niche skin care brands (Glam Glow and Rodin Olio Lusso) in the space of two months. Unilever followed suit with the acquisition of British natural skin care brand REN in early 2015 indicating that this is the year of niche. In addition, Asia’s beauty influence in skin care is becoming increasingly stronger, from innovation to multi-step routines, and the continent, with South Korea in particular, is increasingly regarded as the holy ground of skin care innovation. As skin care remains the biggest contributor to absolute growth and makes up around a quarter of total beauty’s annual revenue, innovation, a key driver of growth will remain a key focus of beauty players. The rise of devices in skin care , from cleansing to anti-ageing and electronic face masks, has shaken up both the competitive field and innovation in skin care. From DNA testing, to picture analysis, to diagnostic apps, the selection of skin care products will continue to become even more personalised. Moving forward, skin care diagnostics is expected to gain presence in apps and in-store.  In fact, smaller product areas within skin care such as face masks and specialised treatments like oils have been growing very strongly. Face masks saw particularly fast growth in skin care in 2013, a position the category is predicted to keep till 2016 inclusive. The influence of Asia in skin care is expected to remain a strong highlight in 2015 including novel concepts, products, formats and benefits. Skin care is expected to continue to have an Asian trend focus with Chanel’s newest product to hit the shelves in the US called Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro-Serum, indicating that the quest of hydration is set to be strong across both side of the price spectrum. Asia is also influencing skin care as the region is well-known for multi-step routines involving an array of products, with many Western brands adding product offerings like essence and emulsion to their portfolio. Regulations have always strongly influenced trends in cosmetics, and skin care in particular. more...

Top 10 Professional Skin Care Industry Trends for 2014

As skin care professionals start to look toward a brighter future, they need to find their place in the ever-changing world of skin care and beauty, which is not the exclusive, behind-the-doors-of-a-treatment-room experience that it used to be. Are one or more of these the key to your future growth and success? With the improvement of the economy in general and the spa industry specifically, those skin care professionals who have survived the Great Recession learned a few lessons along the way . What options are you offering the results-seeking clients in your spa? As the demand for organic personal care products grows, so too will the demand for legitimacy in growing practices and certification. Males now make up 47% of the overall spa-goer population, and historically that number has been much lower.” Along with spa treatments, skin care and grooming products have grown significantly for men as increasing numbers of males worldwide have incorporated grooming into their routine. In fact, new research from Mintel reveals that beauty and personal care launches specifically targeted for men have increased globally by 70% during the past six years (2007–2012). For example, according to the study, approximately 50% of African-American respondents and 36% of Asians strongly agree that they take pride in taking care of their skin. Take a look at your demographic and the area in which your spa is located. What are the predominant ethnicities, and what are their needs? Provide services and products in your spa that will appeal to the largest populations in your area, in the ways they need to be received, for enhanced future success. Instead, more and more clients have a variety of cultural influences in their genetic makeup, and this presents a new and interesting challenge for skin care professionals. more...

Korean BB Cream Picks from Beauty Blogger

Koreans have been at the forefront of the beauty industry for centuries, but it wasn't until a little product called  BB cream hit the market that cosmetics companies from around the world wanted to know everything there is to know about Korean beauty innovation. After living in Seoul, Lee discovered the dedication Korean women have to their skin care routines, and she's sharing her insights on Korean beauty trends and what's in it for you. "For example, the Samsung and LG electronics, mobile phones, and TVs have built this trust with the Korean brand, so people in general have a growing trust in Korean goods. New Splash Masks Korean Skin Care - Marie Claire

Basically, these splash masks are unlike any mask you've tried before, mainly because they come in liquid form and take all of 15 to 30 seconds to use (meaning that I could have been on time to those parties). The masks are a blend of botanical extracts and lactic acid, which helps to re-texturize your skin. To use this mask, you mix about a capful of the stuff with a bowl of water, and then splash (as the name suggests) the mixture on your face for under half a minute, rinse, and boom—you're done. If you are mess-prone or just really not into adding extra dirty dishes to the ever-growing pile in your sink, you can also take the mask into your shower, pour a capful of product into your palms, and pat onto your face for 20 seconds or so.
