My Skin Care Regimen for Acne - prone, Oily, Sensitive Skin

After years of being a hamster, trying different products and methods that will work for my skin type, I'm here to share with you some of what I've learned and discovered - my skin care regimen for acne-prone, oily, sensitive skin. I have very oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin. My face is also sensitive that I really have to be careful with the products that I use that's why I read the ingredients label of the products that I use not just for my skin but for my hair too. These cause premature aging and can clog pores, can instantly give more acne especially if we have the same skin type! Most shampoos contain this and could really irritate the skin (if you're getting body acne especially on your back and shoulders, this might be the culprit) The typical skin care regimen is cleanse, tone and moisturize but what about for people with acne-prone, oily and sensitive skin? Before the next step, make sure your skin is already dry and make sure your face towel is clean. What I also love about this toner is that it contains not only tomato extract, but also chamomile, lavender and rosemary that are perfect for treating inflamed acne. 5-10 minutes after toning (enough time for the toner to be absorbed by the skin), this is where Dan's regimen highlight comes in - 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. This is the time you give your skin to absorb the benzoyl peroxide. I hope this skin regimen works for me for a very long time. I am still wishing that this skin care regimen works for me for a very long time. more...

Of all the skin disorders that affect black skin and other people of color, hyperpigmentation is the chief complaint. It can be the aftermath of skin problems, hormones, medications and medical conditions and many other factors, including acne and minor “skin insults” that lead to skin discoloration. Sun: Photo-sensitivity or sun allergy, sunburn, tanning, sun freckles, seborrheic keratoses, vascular changes in the skin, photo-dermatitis and staining of the skin from perfumes and medications used while exposed to the sun. Most are flat and leave only a trace of the original injury. The “must do” list: (1) Take a complete health history (weight, list of medications, skin problems and products, health, healing, sun, sensitivities), (2) address lifestyle issues that can cause or worsen the problem, (3) add melanin-suppression to existing skin care regimen, (4) get professional skin peels chosen for your skin condition, sensitivity, ethnicity and lifestyle, (5) practice “safe sun” lifestyle habits, and (6) monitor product usage, sunscreen use and/or under-use, and sun exposure. Address the cause of the skin problem, and the factors that can worsen it. It is important to discuss past skin brightener and fade cream usage (especially hydroquinone) and subsequent reactions, amount of daily sun exposure, sunblock usage (or lack of it) and the need for sun avoidance. Clear your acne: Use active products and make lifestyle changes to clear acne and prevent new acne, scarring and dark blemishes. Fat cells alter the body’s hormone levels and can increase darkening and sun sensitivity. Address the reason for the discoloration (outline above) and make the necessary lifestyle changes. Stay in the shade when possible and cover up. We often adjust your treatment plan and product potency to boost the results. Aways apply your active brightening products (a) exactly as directed, (b) in small amounts, massaged all the way into the skin, and (c) in the total absence of irritation. This will cause light “halos” around the dark spots and patches, and cause irritation and rebound darkening of those areas. more...

Proper Skin Care Regimen for Treatment Acne

Proper Skin Care Regimen For Treatment Acne. Stop distress, bad moods and the negative thinking caused your acne problem. I know how you feel, how you hate the mirror in your home because it always reminds you to your face full of acne, pimples and blemishes. I know how you feel while chatting with people and you are walking your town, you have the feeling that everyone is looking at your face and wanted to make you invisible. Everyone knows that one of the biggest keys to getting rid of acne is cleaning your face, but not everyone knows exactly what a proper skin care regimen is. How often do you wash your face? By learning how to care for your skin, you can easily reduce or even eliminate your acne. The first step to keeping your skin clean and acne free is, of course, washing it. Washing your skin too much can actually be very bad for your skin because your skin will start creating more oil to make up for the over cleaning. Ideally you should clean your face twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. This helps get rid of dead skin and gives your face a deep clean. The best way to find one that works well for you is to try one, wait a week, and see what it did for your skin, then decide if you will continue using that one or try another. A proper skin care regimen can make all the difference in your skin healthy and your acne. By simply knowing how to take good care of your skin you can take control of your acne. Of course, if you still have acne problems after adopting good skin care habits, it may be time to look into other options to manage your acne. more...

I still get the occasional blemish here and there, but i have never been happier with my skin! I have oily sensitive skin and the Mia made my skin breakout horribly. Acne appears on the skin as. Sebum (oil) is a natural substance that lubricates and protects the skin. Here are some factors that don't usually play a role in acne: Sweat does not cause acne and is produced by entirely separate glands in the skin. On the other hand, excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin. Pressure: In some patients, pressure from helmets, chin straps, collars, suspenders, and the like can aggravate acne. Other drugs that can cause or aggravate acne are anticonvulsant medications and lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid ). Most cases of acne, however, are not drug related. Of the many available brands of skin-care products, it is important to read the list of ingredients and choose those which have water listed first or second if one is concerned about acne. These "water-based" products are usually best for those with acne. more...

Can Acne Scars Be Removed

Can Acne Scars Be Removed? Scars from acne can seem like double punishment — first you had to deal with the pimples, now you have marks as a reminder. It helps to understand the different kinds of acne so you can figure out what to do about different types of scarring: Acne lesions or pimples happen when the hair follicles (or "pores") on the skin become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Severe acne, which causes nodules — painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps — to appear under the skin. Most serious scarring is caused by the more severe forms of acne, with nodules more likely to leave permanent scars than other types of acne. The best approach is to get treatment for acne soon after it appears to prevent further severe acne and more scarring. Treating Acne Scars. Most of the time, those reddish or brownish acne marks that are left behind after a pimple eventually fade with no need for treatment. Picking or squeezing acne can increase the risk for scarring, though. Acne scars take two forms: If you have serious scarring from previous bouts with acne, there are several things you can do: One thing you shouldn't do to deal with acne scars is load up your face with masks or fancy lotions — these won't help and may irritate your skin further, making the scars red and even more noticeable. more...

Acne Treatment : 3 Best vs 3 Worst Products 2016

Here on the site you can read helpful reviews of 20 acne medications (prescription & non-prescription), 30 OTC acne treatments and 30 natural & home remedies that will help you find the product that’s right for your particular problems. Another important factor to consider when selecting an acne treatment is the type of acne you’re dealing with, and the severity of the problem. Acne can occur on the face or the body, and can range in severity from mild, infrequent blemishes to chronic, cystic break-outs, so it’s important to choose a treatment that’s formulated for your individual needs. It’s also important to keep in mind that body acne usually requires a product tailored to treat the skin of the body, not the face. Choose the best treatment for your skin type and condition: normal skin , oily skin , dry skin , sensitive skin , mild acne , severe breakout , cystic acne , rosacea , body acne (chest & back) , spots , pimples , blackheads and whiteheads . Identifying your individual skin type is an essential step in finding the product that will be most effective in treating your acne. Popular products often come in an acne treatment scrub form, which used daily can exfoliate the skin and unclog pores. Sulfur is a time-tested and reliable method of acne treatment and as such is found in a number of different skin care products and formulas. The best types of toothpaste to use for acne treatment are those that are high in triclosan and that are closer in consistency to a paste than to a gel. White vinegar is a safe and natural antiseptic, making it the obvious choice for treatment of bacteria and oil buildups on the skin. When applying yogurt to your skin, it destroys the bacteria responsible for causing acne inside the pores, and because it is naturally acidic, it draws oil out from the surface of the skin. more...

Red Spots on Face and Acne Scars - Paula's Choice

OK, now that we've defined the difference between a post-breakout discoloration and an acne scar, let's talk about the solutions for each! There are skin-lightening treatments that contain hydroquinone to slow down excess melanin (which is responsible for giving color to hair, skin, and eyes) production, which reduces the appearance of sun-damaged areas of skin (i.e., brownish discolorations), but those don't work on pink to red acne marks. The one exception is for those with darker skin tones where post-acne marks are brownish in color from the skin's pigment, melanin. At-home treatments for post-acne marks, such as rubbing lemon juice or other citrus fruits on your face, don't work—they can't exfoliate skin properly and their acidic juices are potent skin irritants that can prolong the healing process. Two targeted Paula's Choice products to consider are Resist Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator and the super-charged yet super-light Resist 1% Retinol Booster , which can be used on its own or mixed with your moisturizer or serum. A product like this can be layered over your other skincare and is fine to use at the same time as retinol, niacinamide, or applied over AHA or BHA exfoliants. Medical Treatments for Post-Acne Marks and Acne Scars. So, if you're desperate, have an imminent social event, and need the discolorations gone sooner than a skincare routine can accomplish, IPL treatments may be your solution (for those with darker skin tones, speak with your dermatologist about alternative options, as IPL has a risk of complications on dark complexions).[1, 2] If you have red to brown marks and indented acne scars, your dermatologist may suggest a TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel, which can be more potent and potentially more effective than AHA or BHA peels alone.[1, 2] And don't be surprised if your dermatologist suggests more than one treatment, as some types of indented acne scars require this in order to provide you with the best possible result. With Paula’s Choice Skincare, you can get (and keep) the best skin of your life! more...

How To Prevent and Get Rid Of Acne Scars For Good

How To Prevent And Get Rid Of Acne Scars For Good. Pimples are seriously the skin problem from hell. The discolored mark is blatant proof that you had a pimple, and it was not fun. We spoke to two New York City-based dermatologists who gave us the rundown on everything you should know about acne scars, including how to prevent them and what to do to get rid of them for good. "They are mostly cystic lesions that feel painful underneath the skin and they don't really connect with the surface easily," said Dr. Cystic pimples are inflammatory acne which involves more white blood cells rushing to the area and because there are more enzymes in that area, it leads to more destruction. Atrophic scars appear as indentations in the skin. "A true acne scar is when your body takes that healing process one step further and is not able to actually form the collagen the normal way. All the enzymes that are in the area of the acne lesion eat away at things like collagen and elastin," explained Dr. Mac Gregor believes it's important to take the time to go into a doctor's office and get prescribed the best and safest products for your skin type. Bowe suggests using an at-home product with glycolic or salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin and help bring those dark skin cells to the surface. Or you can go to a dermatologist and get a glycolic acid peel to lighten up the dark spots. Both doctors recommend the use of retinoid skin products for both kinds of acne marks. These creams brighten and heal the skin. Mac Gregor couldn't stress enough the important role sunscreen plays in reducing marks and scars. more...

Guide to Treating Acne Scars and Skin Damage. If you see signs that your acne is leaving a scar on your skin , you don't have to grin and bear it. The cortisone is absorbed by skin cells and reduces inflammation. In one to three sessions, laser skin resurfacing using fractionated laser technology can even out the skin surface and increase the formation of new collagen . The new collagen can help fill in acne scars. Non-ablative lasers help activate the production of collagen without damaging the surface of your skin. Acne scars : What's the best treatment? - Mayo Clinic

The appearance of scars that change your skin color may be improved with over-the-counter bleaching agents and use of sunscreen to limit contrast. Injecting collagen or fat under the skin and into indented scars can fill out or stretch the skin. This makes the scars less noticeable. How to Create the Perfect Acne Skin Care Routine

You can create an acne skin care routine with whatever brand products you choose. A good acne skin care routine is so important for blemish-prone skin. But your daily acne skin care routine doesn't need to take a lot of time - just a few minutes twice a day. Follow the guidelines below to help keep your skin feeling refreshed and clean. Make sure you're using the right cleanser for your skin. Harsh soaps won't clear your acne, but they will irritate your skin. Alcohol-free products are the best choices if your skin is irritated by acne treatments or if you have lots of open pimples. But if toners or astringents seem to over-dry or irritate your skin, don’t use them. Ditto if you're using prescription acne medications (they already dry out your skin). You aren't going to harm your skin by not using a toner . Step 3: Apply your acne treatment medications. Many acne medications over-dry the skin, leaving the skin thirsty for moisture. Now that you've got your daily skin care routine down, let's get you an effective acne treatment plan to go along with it. more...

Cystic Acne and Severe Acne - Paula's Choice

Like almost every type of acne, the cystic variety is triggered by hormones. With cystic acne, for reasons unknown, the skin's oil glands become hypersensitive to excess male hormones (women have male hormones that trigger acne), and react by overproducing sebum (an oily substance produced by the body to lubricate and waterproof skin). Once that occurs, you are officially dealing with this terribly painful and unsightly type of acne. Cystic acne nodules appear as raised, red bumps that extend deep beneath the skin. Cystic acne lesions are usually felt beneath the skin before they are seen. As with all types of acne, the first place to start is with over-the-counter products and common sense skincare tips: The bad news it that for some people with cystic acne, traditional therapy using over-the-counter acne products may be of little help. Hormone Therapy: For some women constant over production of androgens (hormones that produce male traits) is the chief culprit for causing cystic acne. Summing up, cystic acne is the most difficult type of acne to treat due to the depth of the breakouts and damage to the oil gland itself. Although over-the-counter acne products can be helpful for some with cystic acne, almost everyone dealing with this type of acne will need to seek help from a dermatologist. Acne Skin Care

Long time ago, I heard that for oily or combination skin, you should wash your face two times a day to remove all the dirt and oil build up. In the morning, I use makeup to prep my skin for the entire day. I have been using the Bare Minerals brand skin care and makeup for three years. It is so important to get the matte foundation vs the original for oily skin . On top of that, I use Tretinoin gel to peal that part of the skin and help it heal faster. A lot of people that are not affected with acne will say things like, what is the big deal with acne? When your parents have acne prone skin, you have a higher chance of inheriting the same type of skin. This is again due to the nature of our skin and excessive oil production. You might have very clear skin the day before, and suddenly your face erupts with two big pimples. So, my skin got pretty bad with about 10 inflamed whitehead pimples on the forehead and a few on my chin. My skin is now healing and most of the pimples disappeared from my face. On the other hand, the matte foundation was just perfect for my acne prone skin. I wanted to write this post so that you guys should stick with the matte formula if you have oily or acne prone skin. The part that I really like was that it didn't irritate my skin at all. more...
