The Perfect Skincare Routine for 20

The Perfect Skincare Routine for 20-Somethings. I’ve finally narrowed down what I think is the perfect skincare routine for 20-somethings. This will help with the occasional hormonal breakout and keep your skin moisturized to prevent wrinkles in the future. You can also shop all of my favorites at the bottom. Of course, that means that cleansing my skin and removing my makeup is incredibly important. The first is Neutrogena’s Ultra Light Cleansing Oil, which is a light oil that you rub on your dry skin to remove your makeup. This is the best option for dry skin. Since I have combination skin, I tend to use either or, depending on the state of my skin that day. This is the step that is most important for us 20-somethings. Toning is crucial to help keep your skin healthy, remove any dirt or makeup your cleansing missed, and refresh the skin. Witch hazel is the most important step in my routine. Your under eye area is the first to wrinkle because it’s highly delicate skin. Unfortunately, it’s also an area of the face that gets “abused” a lot. You pack on concealer under your eyes and tug on the skin when wiping off eye make-up, etc. Because this sunscreen by Benefit was made for the face, it makes an excellent foundation primer. more...

Anti - Aging Skincare for Women in 20s 2013

Like many women, I have trouble with the concept of “anti-aging.” It implies that there is something wrong with growing older, especially for women, and that we should be waging a battle to prevent the inevitable. Then I started thinking: anti-aging isn’t all vanity, or growing old and the fear that can come with it. By developing a skincare routine that has “anti-aging” properties, you’re really just cleaning your skin and protecting it against the negative side effects that are part of living on Earth in 2013. Unprotected exposure to the sun also causes brown spots and redness. In an informal questionnaire posed to women ages 23 to 35, many noticed that their skin no longer bounces back as easily as it used to: “If I’ve had a breakout and make the mistake of trying to deal with it, then I notice scars. The most important part of protective and preventative skincare is “[Using sunscreen] during the winter months, cloudy days, all the time,” says Dr. It’s key for preventing skin cancer and other sun damage. If you’re spending the day at the beach, use a shot glass of sunscreen for the whole body with an SPF of 60. Whether you choose a physical blocker (which sits on the skin and reflects UV rays) or a chemical blocker (which penetrates the skin and converts UV rays into harmless heat) is personal preference. Antioxidants (also found in colourful foods such as pomegranates, blueberries and cantaloupe) neutralize free radicals, which are unstable particles in the skin that damage skin cells. Skip creams that are too rich or thick unless you have dry skin because they can block pores and cause breakouts—a legitimate concern for young women. Cohen says that retinol—known for its ability to stimulate collagen production to help the appearance of fine lines—can also improve pigmentation and help with acne. Your skin (and your 50-year-old self) will thank you. more...

Skin Stories : 20 - Somethings Share Their Routines

(And the good, too: Your skin is young, regenerative, and receptive.) It actually helps mattify the argan oil, and I think it's helping with my acne scars. At my age, I know SPF and moisturizing are the best things to do, so I always buy makeup with SPF and moisturize morning and night. I'll sit in the sun, but only if I can cover my face with a big hat and sunglasses." I start my day by washing with Glamglow's Thirstycleanse  ($39), and I use the occasional scrub. The coolness instantly tightens and refreshes my skin. For my night routine, I double-cleanse with Evan Healy’s Tea Tree Gel Cleanser  ($31) and the Thayer's toner. Before bed, I use pharmacy-brand makeup remover wipes, and properly wash my face with Yes To's Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Cleanser  ($10) while I'm in the shower. "In the mornings, I wash my face with Shiseido's Foaming Wash ($23) and then apply an Aesop Facial Toner ($39). After that, the same toner and moisturizing combo as my morning routine (minus the SPF), this time with Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Serum ($46). "I used to not pay that much attention to aging, and may have actually duped myself into believing that with the skincare regimen I now have I could avoid the inevitable, but I can't! more...

The Important Skin Care Routine for Every 20

The thing is, though, you’re doing your skin a huge disservice by being, well, lazy, and not taking care to keep it in it’s best condition. While doing a full-fledged skin routine every morning and night may sound like a project, trust us when we say that you’ll be thanking us later when you’re mistaken for your 20’s when you’re actually in your 30’s. Some cleansers can actually strip your face of it’s essential oils, drying out and irritating your precious complexion. Be sure to use warm, not hot water to wash your face each morning and night to reduce the risk of drying out your skin. Try a Toner: Do this: After you wash your face, apply a small amount of toner to a cotton ball, wipe your face with it, and take a look at the cotton ball. That’s the stuff that your face wash missed. more...

A skin care regime for 20 - somethings - Truth In Aging

Please suggest ideas and make requests so that we can improve TIA and make it more useful for you. In the meantime, I thought I'd pull together some ideas for a regime for 20-somethings. Which brings me to the best piece of advice I can muster for a 20-something just starting to think about skin care: ditch the bar of soap. A decent cleanser is probably the best investment you can make (although, of course, its never too soon to start using sunscreen). A once-a-week skin-cleansing makeover (and let's face it, you are not yet at the age when a monthly facial at a salon is an absolute necessity) will work wonders for maintaining an under-30 glow. In an ideal world, I'd be recommending a moisturizer/sunscreen combo to save you time and effort (after all, it's all too often that you ignore the alarm and end up making a mad dash to the office). Unfortunately, you may no longer have teenage acne, but you are still in the era of the zit and there's nothing like a chemical sunscreen and an indifferent moisturizer for setting you off. However, if you are in the market for a step-skipping product, you could try Abella's Colorshade tinted sunscreen , recently given an enthusiastic recommendation by Kate. I have a question regarding the Yes to Carrots Yes To Carrrots C Is For Clean Facial Mud Peeling Mask. However, I think they shipped me the incorrect product because the two pack I received says it's the Yes to Carrots C is For Clean Exfoliating Facial Cleanser. I read the directions on how to use it, and it seems like it's just a cleanser, not a mask. The one recommended is actually a mask that you have to leave on and use like a mask, correct? You said the Lemongrass Exfoliating cleanser shouldn't be used daily (is it because it's more of a scrub?); what would you recommend for a daily facial cleanser that we can use both in the morning and at night, everyday , as a regular cleanser? Thanks again for all you 'guys' do at TIA! more...

Good Skin Care Tips for 20’s, 30’s, and Beyond

Good Skin Care Tips for 20’s, 30’s, and Beyond. This age is also right to start moisturizing the skin along with cleansing, because it is during this age that we have maximum collagen support. We also need to feed our skin with antioxidant-rich, hydrating products as collagen works its best at this age. Never use products which removes the entire oil from your skin, even if you have full blown acne and pimples, because this will only lead our oil glands to over-drive, resulting in more pimples. If you are using retinoids during the night then you are getting enough exfoliation but if you are not using them and your skin is sensitive to them, add a cleanser, moisturizer or a night cream with salicylic acid or glycolic acid. In our 30’s skin can begin to look dull, and the easiest solution for this is exfoliation, which you can do at home also. Never forget to moisturizer with petrolatum and shea butter, if you find even slightest dryness on your skin. Skin care for 50s, 60s and Beyond: That entire struggle you had at the young age with your skin will help you at this age. All you have to do is maintain your skin and not give up on it. more...

The Best Skin Care Routine

The Best Skin Care Routine. The best skin care routine in 5 easy steps to prevent blemishes, acne, spots, pimples, wrinkles and make the complexion look fresh and glow! But a simplified skincare routine, covering everything from cleansing to anti-aging, can help banish blemishes and fine lines and make dream skin a reality. Step 1: Cleansing. Washcloths can harbor bacteria and they’re too rough for sensitive skin. Regular use will refine and minimize pores and make skin feel fresh. Step 3: Moisturizing. Next to staying out of the sun, moisturizing is the best step towards keeping skin looking young. If you don’t have problem skin use a lightweight moisturizer. You can use it with whatever cleanser is your favorite. The oscillating brush buffs skin to a healthy glow—but a good scrubbing cleanser or pad will also do the trick. In reality, a strong defense is the best most women can do. more...

My Skin Care Routine - Makeup Geek

Today I am going to show you the products I use and what I do to keep my skin looking and feeling healthy. The first thing I use, and I have been using this for years, is the Clarisonic brush. I use this with a cleanser that is compatible with my skin, for me that’s the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash as I have acne prone skin. I use this with the clarisonic brush every morning to help clean my skin and make sure my pores are clean as well. This has a light orange scent that is not overpowering and feels wonderful on the skin. The vitamin C in this is great for producing collagen and antioxidants. I only do this in the morning after I have used my Clarisonic brush and I allow it to sit for several minutes to give it time to fully penetrate the skin before moving on to a moisturizer. I use the Clinique All About Eyes and I use this right before going to bed. This is the final thing I use in my skin care routine and it’s the one you have to be the most careful with. I have worked up to using it every night but this is gradual and takes time as not to harm the skin. I hope this helps you all in getting and maintaining your skin so it can be the healthiest skin you can have. more...

Rethinking Your Skincare Routine : Why Less Is More

All that sunbathing you thought you’d gotten away with starts to deliver results in the form of dark spots and uneven tone. The blue troughs under your eyes don’t go away with a good night’s sleep. Do that — and see the dermatologist occasionally — and we guarantee that you’ll age better than gracefully. When to use it: Morning and night. However, if you can make time to pour a glass of wine and curl up to watch TV, you can manage to scrub off the makeup, pollution, and grime that have accumulated during the day. (Despite its "oily" name, it won’t clog pores.) Note: If you can only bring yourself to cleanse your face once a day, do it in the evening, when skin is dirtiest. You’ll slough off dead cells, making the skin look smoother and enabling better penetration of your daytime products. Sunscreen not only helps prevent skin cancer, it "minimizes your skin’s exposure to free radicals in UV rays, which cause the breakdown of collagen," says Vivian Bucay, MD, a San Antonio dermatologist and melanoma survivor. To save time and money — and space in your medicine cabinet — it’s smart to opt for a formula that’s also hydrating, since most of us need a moisturizer during the day. Tip: Clinical studies show that antioxidants such as vitamins C and E help to fend off the kind of free radicals found in UV rays — and improve your sunscreen’s ability to do the same. more...

The Twenty - Something Skin Care Routine

Besides signs of aging, your skin changes in other ways as you enter your twenties and requires some changes to your skin care routine. My skin is super sensitive and on the dry side, and this product is the perfect consistency for it. It can be hard to find the right moisturizer that really soaks into your skin and leaves it super soft. I always thought eye cream was meant for nighttime only, but the right eye cream can be applied day and night. The skin under your eyes is very different than the rest of your face and requires a different product, so it only makes sense to use it morning and night. Apply it with your middle finger and dab it into your skin. I use the same cleanser and eye cream from my morning routine, but I use my trusty Clarisonic  at night to really deep clean the skin and get rid of any dirt built up throughout the day. I choose not to use the Clarisonic in the morning as well because my skin is on the dryer side and I find that skipping this step in the morning keeps it softer throughout the day. When your skin is feeling dirty and your pores are clogged (usually in the warmer months), a pore refining mask is a must-have. Put it on before bed and your pimple is gone in the morning. Now let’s recap the 8 products you need in your skin care routine. more...

Beauty routine for 20 - somethings - Truth In Aging

The only excuse I have to not use the knowledge I’ve attained over the years (a plethora of which I’ve gained here at Truth In Aging) is laziness – and that’s not really an excuse. My everyday beauty routine is fairly simple and pretty new – but I’ve been doing it long enough and have altered it enough times over the past few months so that I am satisfied with it. The most important aspects involve preventative measures, but a lot of it is just being conscious of ingredients and effectiveness. I’m not quite sure how I did it, but during college I lived off of about 4 hours of sleep a night (less on weekends) and napped my heart out during the day. If I wear makeup (which definitely isn’t an everyday thing for me), I’ll use a mixture of the Balm time Balm concealer ($18) and   Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer ($10). Bobbi Brown worked best for me, but I couldn’t get over the company’s ingredients (or lack of full disclosure of ingredients). For my nighttime/weekend look, I stick with the same two concealers but I’ll swipe a layer of Alima Pure Finishing Powder ($17) over it. For that, I go back to 100% Pure; their Creamstick Eyeliner in Blackberry ($15) is the only product I trust so close to my sensitive eyes. I have to admit, the ingredients aren’t stellar, but they’re definitely not horrifying, either. Marta imparted some words of wisdom on me recently; the most important product for a 20 something to use is a good cleanser. Two things I have to mention that aren't directly related to beauty but that I am certain contribute to the health of my skin are things that are important at any age, not just in your 20s. more...
