How to Create a Natural Skin Care Routine - Wellness Mama

In general, the natural oil cleansing method is a great solution for any skin type, though the combinations of oils varies based on skin type (see below). The best combination of natural skin care options varies based on skin types: Switching to gentle and natural skin care options often goes a long way toward removing excess oil production, but in the meantime, there are some natural ingredients that can help prevent breakouts and remove excess oil. Moisturizing/Toning: Those with oily skin will need less moisturizing as skin adjusts, and often, the natural oils from oil cleansing are enough. Those with skin that is not typically oily or dry and that responds well to different types of products and makeup usually adjust very quickly to natural skin care options. My skin was more oily when I was younger and as I’ve transitioned to natural skin care options, it has become more “normal” so these are the options that I use: Those with dry or aging skin often benefit immediately from natural skin care options. Often, using natural oils on the skin helps the skin to balance oil production and stop being dry to begin with. The supplements that seemed to have made the biggest difference in skin health for me are: Fermented Cod Liver Oil – for the Vitamins A, D and K, Omega-3s and Antioxidants, all which are great for the skin. I personally have always used toner, but I know plenty of people who think it's useless and don't use it and their skin seems fine. If you have dry skin, I would recommend a moisturizing, balancing toner with hyaluronic acid because it helps lock moisture in on the surface of your skin. Creams and moisturizers would basically be the same thing, but if your skin is on the drier side, I would go with creams over a lotion because they are thicker and can moisturize better. This will really help your skin in the long run, especially in terms of premature aging and sun damage. Be sure to do your research though, and really listen to your skin to see what it likes or doesn't like. more...

Here we break down the steps to get you on your way to glorious skin. You should customize this routine with products for your skin type and problem areas. The basic routine goes like this: Cleansing removes impurities like dirt, makeup, and grime and clears your skin so that products can better absorb. Your skin needs that underlying sebum, so you don't want to strip away all oil with a toner. more...

A skincare regimen for 30 - somethings - Truth In Aging

I am in my 30s, was trying to cheer myself up looking for something new to buy and browsing your site made me think it would be great if you could put together a basic regimen that covers all the bases and is right for my age. The first things that come to mind – since you mentioned that you were in need of cheering up (and in November, who doesn't?) – are brightening and pampering. You are in need of an exfoliating mask – and so are most 30-somethings. It is in your 30s that your skin starts to look a little gray and washed out. A weekly, gentle exfoliating mask will give you a brighter complexion, refine your skin tone and help close enlarged pores. I would go for La Vie Celeste’s glycolic mask, it has mostly natural ingredients and a 5% glycolic concentration that is just enough to give you a glow ( read our reader review ).  If your skin is prone to breakouts, then Epicuren’s Discovery Milk  Cleanser ($22) is very helpful with vitamin E and kukui nut oil ( read the full review ). If funds permit and that objective appraisal of your skin condition concludes that heavier guns are needed, then I would suggest Your Best Face Restore with vitamin C and alpha arbutin for brightening the skin ( read our 30-year old tester’s review ). I also think that a major problem 30-somethings face is the beginning of gradual thinning and loss of moisture and elasticity of the skin. Next thing you know, you wake up and the wrinkles from the night won't go away. The best thing I have found so far and and am very happy with the results is hyaluronic acid. With the winter here and the alternating dry hot air inside and dry cold air outside, the skin around my eyes needs some extra moisture. A topical hyaluronic acid cream will help your skin retain moisture and look plumper too. more...

Skin Care for Women of Color : Basic Skin Care Tips

When it comes to skin care, skin is skin—no matter the color. Skin is the body’s largest organ which is why everyone’s skin needs the same ingredients to address dry skin, acne, wrinkles, sun damage, uneven skin tone, oily skin, rosacea, sensitive skin, and so on. Everyone’s skin also needs the same basics to care for it: gentle cleansing, sun protection, and state-of-the-art products for their skin type. Always use a well formulated sunscreen during the day (the most typical cause of uneven skin tone for women of color is sun damage). Dark Skin and Sun Damage. Everyone’s skin color is created by the amount of melanin in their skin. Having lots of melanin gives women of color an added advantage when it comes to how their skin handles sun exposure and how soon the damage becomes visible. Essentially, the more melanin your skin has, the more natural defense your skin has against the sun. Just to review, skin color is not a skin type, and skin type is definitely what should dictate which products you use. How you treat oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, rosacea, acne, clogged pores, eczema, skin discolorations, wrinkles, or sun damage is the same, regardless of your skin color. Rather than get misled by slick marketing convincing you to buy products based on ethnicity, follow The Paula's Choice Research Team’s approach: Use products that suit your skin type and condition, not your skin color. You’ll find products for all skin types and a range of concerns, from acne and sensitive skin to wrinkles, pores, and sun damage. With Paula’s Choice Skincare, you can get (and keep) the best skin of your life! more...

My Skin Story and Skincare Routine - The Little Honey Bee

The look of my skin and complexion has profound effects on my self esteem and confidence. You name the product and I bet I have tried it. Everything and nothing worked or gave me the results I wanted. And that was a failure as well. By the end of high school, my “bacne” (aka back acne) had cleared but I still was affected on my chest and face. But I also realized that this was a temporary fix and recognized the harmful effects of tanning beds. This was around the same time that I began to “clean up” my diet and start trying to live healthier. In the fall, I worked with a naturopath and was tweaking a few things in my diet  based on food sensitivity testing I had done. My skin did not get better and I was frustrated. I went back to the naturopath in January 2014 and started trying other stuff. I then went to a dermatologist, checked all my hormones (they were fine) and all she could suggest was to put me back on the pill. I was fascinated by it all and have been determined to “fix” my skin. Now, I splash warm water on my face in the morning and moisturize with this oil. And I am loving my skin. more...

Could the hyperpigmentation be due to irritation from the glycolic acid and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation? Thanks for all the tips! On the page for the Body Kit I have Use Instructions and Tips for Success. One last question: as for the bland skin cream. What are the ingredients in the OTC skin cream I need to look for that won’t affect the efficacy of the Glytone Lotion? more...

Good Skin Care Tips for 20’s, 30’s, and Beyond

Good Skin Care Tips for 20’s, 30’s, and Beyond. This age is also right to start moisturizing the skin along with cleansing, because it is during this age that we have maximum collagen support. We also need to feed our skin with antioxidant-rich, hydrating products as collagen works its best at this age. Never use products which removes the entire oil from your skin, even if you have full blown acne and pimples, because this will only lead our oil glands to over-drive, resulting in more pimples. If you are using retinoids during the night then you are getting enough exfoliation but if you are not using them and your skin is sensitive to them, add a cleanser, moisturizer or a night cream with salicylic acid or glycolic acid. In our 30’s skin can begin to look dull, and the easiest solution for this is exfoliation, which you can do at home also. Never forget to moisturizer with petrolatum and shea butter, if you find even slightest dryness on your skin. Skin care for 50s, 60s and Beyond: That entire struggle you had at the young age with your skin will help you at this age. All you have to do is maintain your skin and not give up on it. more...

Beauty secrets from an 80 - year - old ‘goddess’ of style

It was 1949, and the country was still recovering from World War II. “But when the women would go out, you would see them dressed magnificently and they had a look like nobody else. He said, ‘Take this and use it for the month. And she said she feels very much the same as she did when she was younger. And I know that I can face the world like I did when I was 30 or 40 or 50.” I use the loose powder of Chanel — the best — and the creme blush of Chanel. That is my signature look, my braids and the pearls. I never went in the sun — never —and they tell me my skin is very good. Just a little blush, a little powder to take the shine away and a little eye makeup and lipstick. And if the hair looks great with the little stars, then there you have it.” more...

Skin care routines for a 12 year old girl? - Yahoo Answers

I suggest getting a gentle cleanser for the face (even if you have oily acne prone skin or dry or normal skin). Theres a few you can try, I like L'oreal's skin genesis face wash in the pink pump bottle, as well as Philosophy's creamy cleanser, and I have heard good things about Lush face soaps also. To wash your face, use lukewarm water, and massage the soap on your face for 30 - 60 seconds- or leave the soap on your face while you brush or something (60 seconds if your wearing make up or have oily skin). Oh and wash your face 2 times a day (morning and night- or unless you get acne when your older then you CAN wash 3 times or after school or something). Toners from companies like clean and clear might not be a good choice because they have a lot of chemicals and I have heard that your not suppose to be in the sun if you use certain toners. I also like Philosophy's moisturizer, but they have a decent moisturizer by Johnson and Johnson for acne skin ( i recommend products meant for acne prone skin as they don't clog up pores and are less heavy than products for normal skin). Use moisturizer 1 - 2 times a day, depending on the weather and skin type. In winter, use it twice but if you have oily skin, you might want to use it at night only. And whenever you use certain products, it might break you out, but that's because the product is pulling all the toxins out of your skin to the surface (this usually happens with certain acne medicines and stuff). Ok, at the age of 12 you shouldn't have a skin care routine because all the chemicals and cleaners that you use could just cause your skin to breakout than helping it because you don't need it. Also its a good moisturizer for the cold that can dehydrate your skin.- You can only upload photos smaller than 5 MB. You can only upload videos smaller than 600 MB. more...
