How to Create a Natural Skin Care Routine - Wellness Mama

In general, the natural oil cleansing method is a great solution for any skin type, though the combinations of oils varies based on skin type (see below). The best combination of natural skin care options varies based on skin types: Switching to gentle and natural skin care options often goes a long way toward removing excess oil production, but in the meantime, there are some natural ingredients that can help prevent breakouts and remove excess oil. Moisturizing/Toning: Those with oily skin will need less moisturizing as skin adjusts, and often, the natural oils from oil cleansing are enough. Those with skin that is not typically oily or dry and that responds well to different types of products and makeup usually adjust very quickly to natural skin care options. My skin was more oily when I was younger and as I’ve transitioned to natural skin care options, it has become more “normal” so these are the options that I use: Those with dry or aging skin often benefit immediately from natural skin care options. Often, using natural oils on the skin helps the skin to balance oil production and stop being dry to begin with. The supplements that seemed to have made the biggest difference in skin health for me are: Fermented Cod Liver Oil – for the Vitamins A, D and K, Omega-3s and Antioxidants, all which are great for the skin. The Best Skin Care Routine for Your 30s

The Best Skin Care Routine for Your 30s. It’s not all in your head: Skin really does get duller around your thirtieth, when skin cells get as sluggish as you are after a night of tequila shots. “Dead cells sit around longer and rob skin of luminosity,” says Howard Sobel, a dermatologist in New York City. “Glycolic acid is one of the most effective exfoliators because it penetrates more deeply than other acids,” says Fredric Brandt, a dermatologist in New York City and Miami. Rub a drop or two between your fingertips and gently press them over clean skin in the morning, starting with your cheeks, where women typically want to look most radiant. Before you can see sun spots —often caused by beach vacations and long runs (or extended happy hours) outside—they’ve already formed under your skin. Each morning, put on a serum with skin brighteners, like soy (we like  Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 ) or  vitamin C (try Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic Combination Antioxidant Treatment )—and start now. The sun causes 90 percent of wrinkles, and preventing them (by wearing sunscreen, duh) is easier than smoothing lines later on. And don’t forget the rest of your body, beginning with the thin skin on your chest and hands, which shows signs of aging sooner than other body parts. We like Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 and Supergoop SPF 40 Forever Young Hand Cream, which belongs on your bathroom counter so you remember to use it after washing your hands. more...

Every 30 - something needs : a skin care routine

Every 30-something needs: a skin care routine. Cleansing and moisturizing, twice per day, is IMPERATIVE for women our age. But this is only part of what’s required as part of a healthy skin care routine for 30-somethings. As my esthetician likes to repeat: plan NOW for the face you want in 10 years. I wasn’t too good to my skin (or my body) in my 20s and pay for those mistakes in my 30s: smoking, heavy drinking, tanning. At the very basic level, a daily skin care routine for 30-somethings should include: Make-up remover — better for your eye area than the rubbing that comes with cleansing. Side note: Some women also like to tone, but I only typically do this step for a little “mid-afternoon skin pick-me-up” on those days when I don’t wear make-up. Additional regular treatments for your face should also include: What’s your skin care routine? more...

30's Skincare : A Beginning Anti - Aging Regimen

Skin Care in Your 30s. In your 30s, your complexion might appear uneven, rough and less radiant. Make sure to keep up with your basic skin care routine and be consistent. Continue protecting your skin from premature aging and sun damage with sunscreen. Like retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) help generate collagen, smooth lines and even out your complexion. Protect and treat the eyes. As a 30-something, you should introduce an eye cream into your nightly routine. Continue protecting the eye area with sunscreen if your eye cream doesn’t contain SPF. Handle your hands with care. With thinning skin and loss of moisture, hands begin to appear older and can reveal your true age (or worse, add years to it!). Neglecting your hands can lead to sun spots, discoloration and dry skin. If you haven’t done so already, add these steps to your routine. An Amazing Skincare Routine in Your 30s - The Feisty House

A cleanser should be the first step of your skincare routine. It ensures that you’re starting off with a clean slate, removing makeup as well as dirt and oil that can attach to your face throughout the day. It also exfoliates, allowing your skin to absorb all the good stuff from the your products (making your skincare routine work as effectively as possible). Toners remove the excess oil and makeup that your cleanser may miss. If your cleanser doesn’t include a toner (philosophy’s does), than you should use a separate toning product after cleansing. After cleansing and toning, it’s time to apply a serum, which is a concentrated treatment. Serums boost the effectiveness of your skincare products and improve your skin’s overall health by increasing your skin’s moisture levels, increasing brightness, or stimulating your skin’s ability to produce collagen (more collagen means firmer, healthier looking skin!) They also infuse your skin with vitamins A (retinol), C and E. Serums are used morning and night right after cleansing your face, and are applied by gently pressing into the skin. You can find a serum that will do just about anything (based on your specific skincare needs), but I decided to try one that does it all. What I’ve learned from all my skincare research is that our faces can’t get enough moisture, and a good face mask is a great opportunity to drench your skin in as much moisture as it can possibly take. Use a mask after your serum and before your moisturizer during the day, or if you’re using an overnight mask, let that be the last thing you put on before bed. It’s actually a good idea to start using an eye cream in your mid- to late-twenties and use it every day after your moisturizer. When applying an eye cream, gently tap the area around/underneath your eyes with your ring finger (it’s your weakest finger, so you won’t put undue pressure on that sensitive skin). My issue is that the skin around my eyes just doesn’t seem as moisturized and luminous as it could be, so I chose a gel cream. Use a peel after cleansing and then follow up with a serum or moisturizer that contains retinol (an age-fighting version of Vitamin A). more...

Rethinking Your Skincare Routine : Why Less Is More

All that sunbathing you thought you’d gotten away with starts to deliver results in the form of dark spots and uneven tone. The blue troughs under your eyes don’t go away with a good night’s sleep. Do that — and see the dermatologist occasionally — and we guarantee that you’ll age better than gracefully. When to use it: Morning and night. However, if you can make time to pour a glass of wine and curl up to watch TV, you can manage to scrub off the makeup, pollution, and grime that have accumulated during the day. (Despite its "oily" name, it won’t clog pores.) Note: If you can only bring yourself to cleanse your face once a day, do it in the evening, when skin is dirtiest. You’ll slough off dead cells, making the skin look smoother and enabling better penetration of your daytime products. Sunscreen not only helps prevent skin cancer, it "minimizes your skin’s exposure to free radicals in UV rays, which cause the breakdown of collagen," says Vivian Bucay, MD, a San Antonio dermatologist and melanoma survivor. To save time and money — and space in your medicine cabinet — it’s smart to opt for a formula that’s also hydrating, since most of us need a moisturizer during the day. Tip: Clinical studies show that antioxidants such as vitamins C and E help to fend off the kind of free radicals found in UV rays — and improve your sunscreen’s ability to do the same. more...
