If you're overwhelmed by the seemingly infinite array of lotions and potions out there—and the added wrinkle that your best choices change as you age—you've come to the right place. With advice from leading dermatologists, we've created a core regimen for each decade, so you can enjoy complexion perfection (and a streamlined routine) your whole life long. The one guaranteed to shore up your chances of gorgeous skin in the decades to come? You might be noticing dryness for the first time, so a moisturizer is essential. If you're one of the many 20-something women who suffer from acne, you may see that it's shifted from the forehead and midface to the jawline, which means it's hormone related. Your Face Basics. It's best to wash your face twice a day, but if you can manage only once, do it in the evening: Never sleep in your makeup, says Linder. To ensure that you remember to use it, keep the bottle near your toothpaste; apply it all over your face, neck, décolleté, and— whenever they're exposed—the tops of your ears.
As your skin ages, you may find that your complexion dulls and your skin loses elasticity. Health's "Skin Guru," drinking two to three cups of green tea daily can also help give you the antioxidants your body needs to fight off the effects of ageing. Toner helps to remove dirt and dead skin, and moisturiser helps to replenish moisture and nutrients your cleanser might have stripped away. This will buff away dead skin cells, smoothing away a dull complexion and giving your skin a youthful appearance. As your skin ages, the dullness it can exhibit is due to the slowing down of your skin cell's turnover. Retinol can help your skin look fresh and younger-looking, so whenever possible buy products which contain retinol. Quarterly and Yearly Skin Care Advice. With each change of season, get a professional facial and assess your current skin care needs.
I suggest getting a gentle cleanser for the face (even if you have oily acne prone skin or dry or normal skin). Theres a few you can try, I like L'oreal's skin genesis face wash in the pink pump bottle, as well as Philosophy's creamy cleanser, and I have heard good things about Lush face soaps also. To wash your face, use lukewarm water, and massage the soap on your face for 30 - 60 seconds- or leave the soap on your face while you brush or something (60 seconds if your wearing make up or have oily skin). Oh and wash your face 2 times a day (morning and night- or unless you get acne when your older then you CAN wash 3 times or after school or something). Toners from companies like clean and clear might not be a good choice because they have a lot of chemicals and I have heard that your not suppose to be in the sun if you use certain toners. I also like Philosophy's moisturizer, but they have a decent moisturizer by Johnson and Johnson for acne skin ( i recommend products meant for acne prone skin as they don't clog up pores and are less heavy than products for normal skin). Use moisturizer 1 - 2 times a day, depending on the weather and skin type. In winter, use it twice but if you have oily skin, you might want to use it at night only. And whenever you use certain products, it might break you out, but that's because the product is pulling all the toxins out of your skin to the surface (this usually happens with certain acne medicines and stuff). Ok, at the age of 12 you shouldn't have a skin care routine because all the chemicals and cleaners that you use could just cause your skin to breakout than helping it because you don't need it. Also its a good moisturizer for the cold that can dehydrate your skin.- You can only upload photos smaller than 5 MB. You can only upload videos smaller than 600 MB.
Skin care in your forties and fifties. However, in the fourth and fifth decades of life your physiology (especially if you are a woman) changes dramatically. As a result, the rate at which the skin renews and repairs itself becomes much slower. Inflammation increases the production of harmful free radicals and leads to increased cell damage, degradation of skin matrix and other problems. This leads to the accelerated development of fine lines and wrinkles. Motion wrinkles are those developing in the area where facial movements result in skin folding. In the forties, your epidermis (the outer skin layer) is likely to become considerably drier and thicker because its cells (keratinocytes) are not replaced as quickly as before. Skin pigmentation problems, such as blotchiness and age spots, are exceedingly common after 40. Motion wrinkles are relatively pronounced wrinkles that develop in the area where facial movements result in skin folding. Many problems of the 40-50+ year-old skin may be stubborn enough to resist topical agents and other simple self-administered treatments.
The Best Skin Care Routine for an Over 40 Woman. You used to be able to wash your face and go, but lately your skin has needed a little extra help. If possible, consult a dermatologist to create the best strategy for your skin type, and ask your doctor about lifestyle changes which benefit your skin, as well as your overall health. Older skin experiences the decreased production of collagen and elastin, the two elements responsible for firmness in younger skin. Your skin also produces less natural oil, so it can't "plump up" those fine lines the way it used to. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser in the morning and evening, or just at night if you have excessively dry skin. Exfoliating your skin once a week if you have dry skin and up to twice a week for an oily complexion may help diminish fine lines and help your skin absorb moisturizing masks and creams. A weekly steam and mask may also be helpful, especially if you use a mask geared to your skin type. Your skin care routine should extend to prevention, as well as repair and maintenance. Helpful foods to keep skin healthy include lean proteins and fruits and grains with the vegetables B 3, A, C and E.

I dont know a lot about what skin products do and what I need to use and when. I read you should use an eye cream and anti aging things once you turn twenty but i dont want to harm my skin. I personally have always used toner, but I know plenty of people who think it's useless and don't use it and their skin seems fine. If you have dry skin, I would recommend a moisturizing, balancing toner with hyaluronic acid because it helps lock moisture in on the surface of your skin. Creams and moisturizers would basically be the same thing, but if your skin is on the drier side, I would go with creams over a lotion because they are thicker and can moisturize better. This will really help your skin in the long run, especially in terms of premature aging and sun damage. Be sure to do your research though, and really listen to your skin to see what it likes or doesn't like.

In general, the natural oil cleansing method is a great solution for any skin type, though the combinations of oils varies based on skin type (see below). The best combination of natural skin care options varies based on skin types: Switching to gentle and natural skin care options often goes a long way toward removing excess oil production, but in the meantime, there are some natural ingredients that can help prevent breakouts and remove excess oil. Moisturizing/Toning: Those with oily skin will need less moisturizing as skin adjusts, and often, the natural oils from oil cleansing are enough. Those with skin that is not typically oily or dry and that responds well to different types of products and makeup usually adjust very quickly to natural skin care options. To save time and money — and space in your medicine cabinet — it’s smart to opt for a formula that’s also hydrating, since most of us need a moisturizer during the day. Tip: Clinical studies show that antioxidants such as vitamins C and E help to fend off the kind of free radicals found in UV rays — and improve your sunscreen’s ability to do the same.

Skin is the body’s largest organ which is why everyone’s skin needs the same ingredients to address dry skin, acne, wrinkles, sun damage, uneven skin tone, oily skin, rosacea, sensitive skin, and so on. Everyone’s skin also needs the same basics to care for it: gentle cleansing, sun protection, and state-of-the-art products for their skin type. Always use a well formulated sunscreen during the day (the most typical cause of uneven skin tone for women of color is sun damage). Dark Skin and Sun Damage. Everyone’s skin color is created by the amount of melanin in their skin. Having lots of melanin gives women of color an added advantage when it comes to how their skin handles sun exposure and how soon the damage becomes visible. Essentially, the more melanin your skin has, the more natural defense your skin has against the sun. Just to review, skin color is not a skin type, and skin type is definitely what should dictate which products you use. How you treat oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, rosacea, acne, clogged pores, eczema, skin discolorations, wrinkles, or sun damage is the same, regardless of your skin color. Updated on September 07, 2012. On September 05, 2012. I'm almost 39, and I honestly never worried about wrinkles until recently, but now suddenly I'm feeling like I need .something. I only see a few tiny wrinkles, but overall I just don't feel like my skin looks very young anymore, though it's hard to put my finger exactly on what's changed. I've been using Clinique almost exclusively since I was in college , but in the past year or so I've transitioned to some Neutregena products ( face cleanser and moisturizer) because my mom's dermatologist recommended them to her as a cheaper, effective alternative to the many expensive skincare lines my mom has tried through the years. When I go this year (not till December, since insurance only pays for a once-yearly checkup ), I'd like to talk to her about options for wrinkle reduction/toning/elasticity, etc., but I'd like to hear from others with experience before she hears the desperation in my voice and pushes the most expensive option.

Though she's careful to use a moisturizer with SPF 15 daily, it doesn't provide strong enough protection against UVA, the rays that trigger pigmentation. A cleanser with lightening agents like niacin (a B vitamin) helps inhibit the release of melanin, the pigment that colors skin. You've probably spent most of your teenage and early twenties trying to get oil off your skin. But now that you've reached your thirties and your skin is fabulous, here's what you can do to ensure it stays the same another thirty years. At thirty your face needs moisture and hydration throughout the day.
