Help for Oily Skin : Oily Skin : Skincare Advice

Recognizing and Understanding Oily Skin. Oily skin is hard to control because it's the result of genetically determined hormonal changes in your body, and you simply cannot control hormones topically. The hormones responsible for oily skin are called androgens—the male hormones—and they are present in both men and women. Caring for Oily Skin. The first step in caring for oily skin is to take a critical look at your current skin-care routine. Products that make your skin tingle (such as menthol, mint, eucalyptus, and lemon) or that contain alcohol may feel like they are helping with your oily skin, but tingling is not helpful for anyone's skin. Also bad for oily skin are products that contain pore-clogging or emollient ingredients, which may make your oily skin worse. Step-by-Step Routine for Oily Skin. Hydration, and absorbing excess oil—will help you take control of your skin so you'll see less oil, smaller pores, and fewer breakouts, using products from Paula's Choice or the other products we recommend on Beautypedia. An alcohol-free toner loaded with antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients is an important step for oily skin. Exfoliation is one of the most important skin-care steps for oily skin. The best exfoliating ingredient for oily skin is salicylic acid (BHA). Even if you have oily skin, a sunscreen is essential for preventing wrinkles and reducing red marks. With Paula’s Choice Skincare, you can get (and keep) the best skin of your life! See Paula's Choice Products for Oily Skin . more...

The Affordable Skin Care Routine - A Model Recommends

I always think that it’s worth spending a little more on a serum – read my serum post here – but I like the three I’ve picked because they are nice and hydrating and straightforward. The Vichy Aqualia is particularly lovely, and my pick of the three – that’s £16.15 here . The Aloe one is quite soothing and calming, that’s £12 here . If you want to spend more then read the other reviews here on the site – there’s a link below. My picks with SPF are from No7 (from £12.50 here ), because they always seem a good solid choice and I get on well with them, and the Avon ANEW SPF 50 that I reviewed last year . I like Toleriane Ultra (£14.85 here ) for calming down angsty, sensitive skin and then the Hydraphase for long-term hydration. I like it a lot, and it’s reduced to £19.99 at the moment here which is something of a boon! Olay’s Eye Swirl does have some nice ingredients worth writing home about, and you can read more on it here. The Omega Rich Face Oil is very lovely and costs £14 – I can never see it in stock online, but it’s well worth checking for when you’re out shopping. Just two here, for the moment. The Weleda one is nice, just very simple and plain, great if you want something very natural but without essential oils – it’s about £15 but only a tenner on Amazon . more...

My Skin Care Routine - During and Post - Acne - Mollie Bylett

I was on Roaccutane (very strong, medically prescribed tablets) for 6 months and my skin changed dramatically in that time. The roaccutane stays in your system for 12 months after you finish the course and so in that time your skin continues to improve. You can see here the difference in my skin from 1 year ago and now. My experience with Acne has made me value my skin SO much and I vowed to look after it as best as i possibly could from there on. So, after many of you asking, I'm going to let you know the products I used during the treatment and what i use now: During the treatment. You skin becomes very fragile and dry on Roaccutane and so you need something as gentle, hydrating and perfume free as possible. I was recommended this brand and it did the job perfectly. After the treatment. I was always put off by the higher prices on these products comepared to drugstore choices but because my skin was sensitive and so valuable to me - i couldn't put a price on looking after it. Don't be put off by a face oil, use the right amount and they don't make you oily! I was very satisfied with these products and would too recommend these for post - acne skin (or any skin). more...

The 5 - Step Asian Skincare Routine - Makeup For Life

Double cleansing is crucial in maintaining great skin because makeup can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. What I Use: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil and Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser. When you massage your skin, the temperature from your hands will help open up your pores and remove the dirt embedded within. Those with dry skin will benefit from hydrating sheet masks while those with oily skin should use a clay mask to draw out impurities and unclog pores. Gel and cream masks are for those with mature skin. Toners remove dead skin cells and residue from cleansers, replenish your skin with moisture after cleansing and make the absorption of any subsequently applied products easier and faster. When picking a toner, stay away from products with high levels of alcohol because it will only dry out your skin, causing your skin to secrete more sebum and making it oilier. It is a common misconception that people with oily skin do not have to use a moisturizer. If your skin is on the dry skin, go with a thicker cream. What I use: DHC Easy Care Milky Lotion for Dry Skin and DHC Q 10 Eye Cream. more...

Best daily skin care routine for oily skin

Skin Care Routine for Oily, Acne Prone Skin. In my opinion, oily skin is the hardest skin type to take care of. Oil is not your enemy, it is a necessary thing for your skin. The use of a harsh product will only make your skin produce more oil. If you don’t moisturize you will get flaky skin on top of your oily skin. I’m not saying that you will go from oily skin to normal skin just by using different products. I’m saying you can get more control on your oil production and begin to even out your skin tone. Exfoliating too much will irritate your skin, and can spread the oil around and create more break outs. In that case use a cleanser “for all skin types”. If you are extremely oily get a moisturizer that is “oil free”. With oily skin, the excess oil will mix with the dead skin and settle in your pores (sorry if that is a gross image, but it’s true). This will soak up all extra oil without drying you out or stripping your skin. Even though you are oily and you may think you don’t need that heavy cream by your eyes- you do! The skin around the eye area is different from the rest of your face and it doesn’t produce oil the same. more...

This way, I’m able to more accurately observe what each new product is doing for my skin, and if I do have a reaction to something new, I’m able to pinpoint which product is the culprit. Please note that I’m only using one product for each category at any given time, with the exception of serums and p H dependent treatments. You can check out my post about the moisture barrier, acne, and skin sensitivity for more information about this topic. This is the most affordable of my top 5 cleansers, and has been a staple of mine for a very long time. Where to Buy: You can find this cleanser at Sephora.com , where it retails for $45. Where to Buy: You can find this toner on the Silk Naturals website , where it retails for $9. This one remains my favorite – it is extremely effective and has the shortest ingredient list (less potential for irritation or product reactions). Instead, you can use BHA with your morning routine and retinol in the evening. I do think this one is great for all skin types, and oily types will probably have better luck with this sunscreen than the UV Creamy Gel. Where to Buy: This sunscreen is available on Amazon for $23 , and is available for Prime shipping. more...

Oily Skin Care Routine

It is important to choose the right products for oily, blemish prone skin. Choose a cleanser specially formulated for blemishes or oily skin, like those in the Normaderm range (my favourite is the Cleansing Gel as it makes my skin feel squeaky clean afterwards). Moisturising the skin will maintain the integrity of the barrier function of the skin and is vital for good skin health. Don’t pick or squeeze your spots as your skin will take longer to clear and you may end up with acne scars. It is a good idea to gently exfoliate once a week if you have oily skin. This will immediately remove dead skin cells from the skin surface resulting in a brighter appearance. Longer term, it will reduce the development of blackheads. Be careful not to overdo this otherwise you will end up irritating the skin and making things worse not better. more...

Skin Care and A Routine

If you have to touch your face, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water - or alternatively, use a face towel. Determine your skin type and buy skin care products to suit your skin type. This is an incredibly important step because if you buy products that aren't appropriate for your skin, they will be incredibly ineffective, and may worsen the situation. Dry Skin-If your skin feels very tight and is noticeably flaky in areas, then you have dry skin. If your face is visibly shiny, and literally feels slightly wet to the touch then you have oily skin. If you have oily skin, you should tone, exfoliate, use a spot treatment, and lightly moisturize once in a while. If you have combination skin, you tend to get oily around your nose, chin, and forehead area, and dry around your cheeks. If you have sensitive skin, use a moisturizer, cleanser, and spot treatment all suitable for sensitive skin. Apply the cleanser and massage it into your skin in upwards, circular motions. By restoring your skin to its natural p H, you also make it more resistant against bacteria and micro-organisms. So after cleansing and toning you should moisturize with a face moisturizer for your skin type. If you haven't applied enough moisturizer and your skin still feels a little tight, then apply a bit more. Your skin needs to get used to the frequency of being treated, and to the products you're using. more...

6 Counterintuitive Steps for Natural Skin Care

The move towards natural, chemical-free skincare products is becoming more and more mainstream. Consumers are becoming more and more aware of the fact that the things we put on our skin affect both our health and the health of our environment. Additionally, even if we are using pristine and homemade products, we can still be disrupting the regeneration cycle of the skin. The terms “natural” and “naturally derived” have no significance. When we apply drying products on the skin, it actually signals the skin to produce more oil to compensate for the oil that is being stripped away. The same “like treats like” principle also goes for dry skin, according to holistic skincare expert Dr. When treated with the right ingredients–both outside and inside– the skin will increase cellular turnover and look soft and smooth… Especially when it comes to the beauty of our skin! In my opinion, the most significant change we can make for better skin is balancing our hormones naturally through diet, lifestyle and a few carefully selected supplements. It sounds counterintuitive, but it leaves the skin clean and soft. I warm a few drops of my facial oil between my fingers and press it on my face after toning in the morning. Are you making the transition to natural skincare? more...

The Best Skin Care Routine — How to Get Clear Skin

And more specifically, your skin. With the help of top skincare pros, we've created the easiest, most effective plan for your most radiant skin ever. Wash your face twice daily: once in the morning, and once at night. In the morning, you're prepping your skin to receive topical products like antioxidants, moisturizers, and sunscreens. D., founder of Refined Aesthetics, your skin will be healthier and less dry when you keep the water temperature warm rather than hot. (Use the same principle when washing your hands to avoid scaling and flaking skin.) In addition, Dr. Abouhim recommends limiting the length of your shower and patting the moisture from your skin with a soft towel instead of rubbing it. In addition to using moisturizer on your face, pay special attention to your eyes, which have the thinnest skin on your body, says Dr. Chiu, but also decrease the development of wrinkles, keep pigment even and help your skin barrier stay healthy. You can take it one step further by tailoring the mask to your skin type. You might not think  your workout has anything to do with your skin, but hitting the gym at least three times a week tightens skin and reduces stress, which in turn minimizes breakouts. You should feel your skin tingling, which is a good sign that the scrub is activating your circulation. Evaluate everything from your diet to the products you use. more...

Anti - Aging Minimal Skin Care Routine

You can simplify your daily anti-aging routine and still look great. "In the morning, you have oil and dust on your face from sleeping, and in the evening, you have to wash off sunscreen , makeup , dirt, and pollen ," says Amy Derick, MD, a dermatologist in Barrington, Ill. She suggests that you go easy on your skin, too. "Avoid the scrubs with large beads that have irregular shapes that can irritate your skin." "These are mildly irritating to the skin, so you have to strike the right balance between getting the job done without peeling or causing a rash ," Derick says. Wear sunscreen , too, as these can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. When you get out of the shower in the morning, and after you wash your face at night, use a moisturizer right away to lock the water in your skin, preferably a cream over a lotion, says Doris Day, MD, author of Forget the Face Lift . This helps your skin look soft and smooth, which can help minimize the appearance of wrinkles . "You have to wear sunscreen every day," Derick says. more...

Body Skin Care Tips / Skin Care Routine

Basic Body Skin Care. Just like our face, the skin on our body can suffer the effects of daily life. Thus, a good cleanse, exfoliation and hydration are all essential to keeping the skin on your arms, back, shoulder, legs (you get the idea) healthy and glowing! If you simply swipe a bar of soap over the main parts of your body and rinse, your routine is probably a bit too basic. Once your skin is cleansed, rinsed and dry, it’s time to moisturize. The Best Morning Skin - Care Routine - Women's Health

Skin care, SPF is only half the battle. We’ve got to clean our skin and arm it with antioxidants (then UV protection) to ensure we’re really ready to face the day. To figure out how to best protect our skin from UV rays and the harmful particles suspended in the air (many of which are generated during the combustion of fossil fuels), we spoke to Debra Jaliman, M. D., a New York-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules, about the best way to handle our morning skin-care regimens. Read on for her tips on how to tinker with the morning trifecta, no matter your skin type. Many people think, "If my skin doesn’t feel greasy, it must not be dirty." But even those with ultra-dry skin still need to cleanse in the morning, says Jaliman. “There’s oil and bacteria that’s accumulated on the skin while you’ve been sleeping all night," she says, "so it’s important to cleanse in the morning." Those with dry skin should look for a cleanser that’s creamy in consistency and stocked with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, or other gentle moisturizers, recommends Jaliman. “The cleanser you choose is crucial in terms of not drying out your skin,” she says. But for those with oily skin, morning cleansing is a particularly important step. Jaliman suggests cleansing with a powder or glycolic- or salicylic-acid-spiked cleanser (rather than a cream) and toning the skin as well. Although those with oily skin tend to shy away from “hydrating” products, the best way for this group to get hydrated skin in the day is via a serum, since a moisturizer will just up the grease factor, says Jaliman. The best way to fight fussy skin? Look for products with short ingredient lists—like Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser ($4, Drugstore.com )—and serums that calm and soothe. more...

My Skin Care Routine - Makeup Geek

Today I am going to show you the products I use and what I do to keep my skin looking and feeling healthy. The first thing I use, and I have been using this for years, is the Clarisonic brush. I use this with a cleanser that is compatible with my skin, for me that’s the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash as I have acne prone skin. I use this with the clarisonic brush every morning to help clean my skin and make sure my pores are clean as well. This has a light orange scent that is not overpowering and feels wonderful on the skin. The vitamin C in this is great for producing collagen and antioxidants. I only do this in the morning after I have used my Clarisonic brush and I allow it to sit for several minutes to give it time to fully penetrate the skin before moving on to a moisturizer. I use the Clinique All About Eyes and I use this right before going to bed. This is the final thing I use in my skin care routine and it’s the one you have to be the most careful with. I have worked up to using it every night but this is gradual and takes time as not to harm the skin. I hope this helps you all in getting and maintaining your skin so it can be the healthiest skin you can have. more...

How To Best Take Care Of Your Skin At Night

According to researchers at the University of California-Irvine, new skin cells grow faster while you sleep , so a good evening facial routine should be a high priority. At night, the goal is to repair damage from the day's pollution, sun and stress, as well as to hydrate since you lose more water from your skin as you snooze , according to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Day and Julia Tzu, M. Start with a good cleansing to ensure you remove all makeup and build-up from the day. As such, she recommends using a cleansing brush like the Clarisonic or Olay Pro X along with a gentle face cleanser in lukewarm water to wash off dirt and oil. Tzu suggests using skincare products that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. They are, though, beneficial for opening pores so that active ingredients penetrate and easily absorb into the skin. Tzu instructs her patients to pat it dry and apply a small amount of retinoid all over the face. (Be sure to avoid the area around the eye, corners of your mouth and creases of the nose.) These creams work to brighten and heal the skin . "However, retinoids, especially those that are prescription strength, often dry the skin out. Put on a thick layer of moisturizer all over the face and neck. The biggest difference between daytime and nighttime moisturizers is that the former are lighter in consistency and often contain sunscreen. The consistency of nighttime moisturizers may not feel or look aesthetically pleasing to the user, but they make skin soft and supple. Day suggests reading the ingredients label for antioxidants, peptides and vitamins C and A to help repair the "insults" from the day. "[It] protects and hydrates the delicate skin of the eye," says Dr. more...
