Dos and don’ts for acne - prone skin

Dos and don’ts for acne-prone skin. Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when skin pores become clogged and bacteria settles in, causing the pore to become infected. Several factors can contribute to developing acne such as oily skin, hormones, diet, skin care products and even your skin care routine. The good news is that acne is treatable and often can be controlled or even prevented with the right skin care treatment plan. Fields and Rodan explain that acne occurs when dead skin cells combine with the skin's natural oil, clumps together inside the pore and creates an ideal environment for bacteria to flourish. The good news is that, with the right combination of medicines, those with acne can enjoy skin that's as clear and healthy-looking as someone who had no acne at all. The secret is finding the right combination of medicines and skin care treatments that work for you." Caring for acne-prone skin can be tricky until you find the right combination or skin care products that work best for you. Skincare For Oily Acne Prone Skin - Into The Gloss

And the breakouts—did I mention the breakouts? Whereas lots of people (particularly the people I work with) get that glow-from-within from moisturizing, my face becomes reflective the second it senses any oil or heavy cream. At the behest of Alexis Page , I went and checked out Thompson Chemists —a cute little Soho pharmacy stocked with everything from classics like Lucas' Papaw Ointment to Malin & Goetz and Heritage Store . I originally wanted La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser because I kind of just liked the name (and hey—if Cindy Bruna is endorsing, I'm buying). But professionals are professionals for a reason, and they knew better as they guided me toward the Avène display and grabbed me a perfect trifecta of the brand's Cleanance line. I left the store with the Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser , the Cleanance Lotion , and the Cleanance K Cream-Gel —to respectively cleanse, moisturize, and spot treat. Since that day I've been deeply in love with all things Avène Cleanance, and to my surprise, the product which proved to be the best out of the three was the one I was most afraid to use. The Cleanance K Cream-Gel is sort of confusing—even its name is unsure of itself. The point is, you can feel it working immediately, which is good for me because, as with nearly all things in life (skincare included), I like instant gratification and constant validation. But since I've started worshipping at the Avène Cleanance altar, I can completely attest to it changing my skin. Maybe it's in the name, but my skin just feels cleaner. more...

Scrubbing seems like the perfect way to cleanse and purify, but for most acne-prone skin, anything more than a teensy bit of exfoliation is way too much. Use fingertips to massage skin gently (a little blood flow is good, but don’t go crazy) and avoid abrasive ingredients like beads altogether. It targets acne by sloughing away dead skin cells that clog pores and lead to breakouts. Unlike benzoyl peroxide, it won’t kill bacteria, but it also won’t suck all of the moisture from your skin or cause peeling and redness. So I want to share the top 10 Korean tips to care for oily or acne-prone skin based on my experience with customers and one of our most recent surveys in Korea. A p H of about 5.5 helps keep the skin barrier healthy and strong, keeping bacteria out and moisture in. Be the Skin Pore Toner (and the Botanical Pore Serum ) is a holy grail product for overactive oil glands. The thought is that consistently exfoliating 2-3 times a week versus aggressive exfoliation once every few weeks can be far more effective and keep skin healthier. For those with oily skin, BHAs are the ingredient to look for because they can penetrate more easily through oil. And using face oils can actually be good for the skin barrier as the oils you put on the skin and the oils released through the skin aren’t one and the same. The intensive hydration and nourishment that sheet masks can provide both help hydrate skin (see tip #1) and, depending on the active ingredient, can help with sebum production, refining texture (those with oily skin tend to complain more about leathery, thicker-looking skin), and firming up pores. My all-time favorite sheet mask is great for all skin types, and soothing for those with breakouts or irritated skin. The Steam Pack heats up upon application to clear out pores and is a good fit for oily skin (The O 2 Pack has similar results, but is better suited for dry skin).
