Topical and oral products (non-prescription) I have been having a lot of problems with skincare products for my rosacea. I have very sensitive skin and a lot of products cause flushing. I am thinking maybe I need to give it more time to heal my skin using the Avene products, and perhaps I worsened my rosacea with the prior products. I have two questions: Has anyone tried these Avene products and noticed any improvement? Skin concern – Acne rosacea - Liz Earle

Rosacea is a common, long-term and non-contagious skin disorder. Skin may also look bumpy with tiny red spots (that can sometimes be mistaken for acne) and small blood vessels may appear. Cleanse your face and neck twice a day using a mild detergent-free cleanser such as Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser . It may help to sometimes use a soft, wet sponge to remove Cleanse & Polish, instead of the muslin cloth twice a day, as this may be gentler on your skin. I suffer from rosacea and really sensitive skin, I have searched for years for something to clean my face with, without an outbreak on my face, 40 years and thousands of products tried and tested and I have found it! So thank you Liz Earle for the Cleanse & Polish. Rosacea-prone skin should still be moisturised and you may find a product made with natural botanicals, rather than man-made chemicals, is more suitable for your skin. Try our Skin Repair Moisturiser for dry/sensitive skin , as it includes antioxidant natural source vitamin E and GLA from borage oil to help skin replace lost moisture. Or if your skin is very sensitive you may prefer our Superskin Moisturiser , which is fragrance-free, to soothe even the most fragile of skin. To ensure these moisturisers are suitable for your skin it may help to try the treat-size versions first and then opt for the full-size versions when you are sure the formula is right for your skin. more...

Consistent, gentle skin care and effective use of makeup can make a visible difference in managing rosacea and improving the look of your skin. The key is to use products and techniques that minimize irritation. One good guide: look for products that are noted as appropriate for sensitive skin or skin with rosacea — and avoid any products that sting, burn or cause irritation. In a National Rosacea Society survey of 1,066 patients, 41 percent reported that certain skin-care products aggravated their condition and 27 percent said certain cosmetics also caused rosacea flare-ups. Most respondents said they avoided astringents, exfoliating agents and other types of products that may be too harsh for sensitive skin. Choose fragrance-free skin-care and makeup products. Using fragrance-free and allergy-tested products reduces your risk of skin irritation. Rosacea patients should also consider reducing the number of items they use on their skin by choosing products with multiple functions. more...

Skincare for rosacea? - YouLookFab Forum

When I was diagnosed about a year ago, the doc immediately had me stop using the harsh facial soap, wipes and exfoliants, since rosacea skin tends to be uber sensitive. And while the Dr. My suggestion is to first cut out sulfate washes and just be as gentle with your skin as you can be. For many of them, that involved switching to natural skin care lines, and the one that's worked best for them has been Evan Healy's blue skin care line. It has all components of the line and enough to last you up to two weeks. The first kind can be treated with lotions, creams and antibiotics, but the second kind cannot. I have the second type, and for me, it's hereditary (my mom has it too). I have been to see several dermatologists about this, and the only way I can improve this is with laser treatments. In the meantime, I use very gentle cleansers and products on my face. I agree with the other ladies, if you haven't already, I'd go to see a dermatologist and see what they recommend. I was diagnosed about 20 years ago with mild rosacea and luckily have been able to keep it that way. Back then I saw no difference with Rx antibiotic gels and got worse with what was "the" treatment then, but it's certainly worth investigating new potions. more...

Fact Sheet – Acne Rosacea - Liz Earle

What can I do about Acne Rosacea? Acne rosacea is a common, long-term and non-contagious skin disorder. In around 50% of sufferers the eyes are affected resulting in discomfort and redness. Whilst the cause is unknown (experts believe it could be a combination of genetic, hormonal and environmental factors), a rosacea 'flare-up' can be triggered by exposure to a number of common situations. According to The National Rosacea Society the most common triggers are: However, the good news is that rosacea can be easily diagnosed by either a GP or a dermatologist and then often successfully controlled through treatment. Many sufferers mistake rosacea as simply part of the skin's natural ageing process and therefore miss out on early diagnosis, which is usually key to successful treatment. The essential first step in controlling rosacea is to avoid potential stimulants (see ' What triggers it?' ). Make sure your body is getting the right levels of all its main nutrients by taking good multi-vitamins and multi-mineral supplements. Soothing skincare is ideal for helping to keep skin calm and under control: As this is not always realistic (and a little sunshine is good for our wellbeing), the right sunscreen is essential. Try our Suncare which are based solely on reflective mineral sunscreens and are safer for sensitive skins than those made with chemical sun filters. Use a pure muslin cloth rinsed in hand-hot water to gently polish off the cream, leaving your skin soft and radiant. more...

Rosacea - Treatment - NHS Choices

There is currently no known cure for rosacea, but there are treatments available to help keep the symptoms under control. The specific treatments that are recommended will depend on your symptoms. The various treatments for rosacea are outlined below. You can also read a summary of the pros and cons of the treatments for rosacea , allowing you to compare your treatment options. If you have papules (round red bumps that rise from your skin) and pustules (pus-filled swellings) caused by rosacea, there are a number of different medications that can be effective. These can be divided into topical treatments (applied to the skin) or oral treatments (taken by mouth). Side effects of these treatments can include a burning or stinging sensation, itchiness and dry skin. If your symptoms are more severe, an oral antibiotic medication may be recommended as these can help reduce inflammation of the skin. Some of the medications used can also make your skin sensitive to sunlight and artificial sources of light, such as sun lamps and sunbeds. As with the topical treatments mentioned above, these medications usually need to be taken once or twice a day and you may not notice a significant improvement in your symptoms for several weeks. As isotretinoin is a strong medication that can cause a range of side effects, it can only be prescribed by a dermatologist (a specialist in treating skin conditions) and not your GP. It's not clear how effective these medications are at treating redness caused by rosacea, but they may sometimes be prescribed under the supervision of a dermatologist. A referral to a dermatologist is usually required before having these treatments and they are not usually available on the NHS, so you may need to pay for them privately. Side effects of laser treatment are usually mild and can include: In some people with rosacea, the skin of the nose can become thickened. more...

Your skin and rosacea - WebMD Boots

Rosacea is a common and long-term skin condition that mainly affects a person's face . When rosacea first appears, the face may look flushed. One theory is that rosacea may be part of a more generalised disorder of the blood vessels. Although no-one knows definitely what causes rosacea, some circumstances and conditions can trigger the condition. People who have fair skin and who tend to blush easily may be at a higher risk of the condition. While there is no cure for rosacea, medical therapy is available to control or reverse the signs and symptoms. Signs and symptoms of rosacea. According to dermatologists and researchers, the 5 key triggers of Rosacea are: It has been found that Rosacea sufferers have a higher density of these mites on their skin than those without Rosacea, as seen in the study  The Demodex Mite Population in Rosacea . In order to help treat Demodectic Rosacea, one must manage the Mite population on the skin and also soothe the inflammation caused. This can be irritating on the skin and may potentially burn the skin. Medication is often prescribed to Rosacea sufferers which helps stop the mites from spreading and moving around the skin. It will not necessarily help with other types of rosacea and as is often the case, what works for one doesn’t always work for another. Vitamin E is effective in repairing damaged skin and helps reduce the redness caused by this condition. Abnormalities in the blood vessels of the face play a role in the development of Rosacea as it causes persistent redness and enlarged blood vessels. It has been shown in the past that a relationship exists between gut problems and skin conditions, such as Rosacea. The following 3 Rosacea triggers are all related to a gut condition. Probiotics are often taken by SIBO sufferers which help reduce the inflammation caused, inhibit unwanted bacteria and help the body's digestive functions work more efficiently. As the leakages occur each meal, this leads to an overactive immune response which leads to inflammation and further conditions, such as Rosacea. Probiotics are often taken to help repair the intestinal tract and reduce the associated inflammation. Some supplements have been found to help heal the damaged tract and reduce the inflammation caused. Glutamine, an amino acid, helps restore the gut barrier and digestive functions that are impacted by this gut condition. more...

Rosacea and Rosacea Treatment : An Introduction — Help for

Rosacea and Rosacea Treatment: An Introduction — Help for Australians. Rosacea is a well-recognised, although frequently untreated, chronic skin condition presenting primarily as redness of the central facial skin, broken capillaries (telangiectasia), and (in more advanced cases) the formation of acne-like papules and pustules . Rosacea is more common in fair-skinned individuals, those who blush easily, have sun-damaged skin and whom have relatives with the disease. What is the Cause of Rosacea? The precise cause of rosacea remains elusive. The symptom of " flushing " (sudden and then persistent skin redness) is now considered enough for a diagnosis of rosacea. Permanent areas of skin redness on the central region of the face, broken capillaries and acne-like eruptions are additional symptoms , indicating more severe or advanced rosacea. It is generally thought, although not scientifically established, that the more symptoms there are, and the more persistent those symptoms are, the more potentially severe the rosacea may become if left untreated. Additional Skin Signs of Rosacea. Patients with rosacea tend to have subjectively "sensitive skin" characterized by episodes of burning and stinging. Thickened skin, particularly of the nose, is a symptom of more severe and longer-term untreated rosacea, particularly in men. Laser and light treatments treat more resistant or established symptoms of the disease, such as broken capillaries and thickened skin texture . The list of triggers which can aggravate rosacea is long and can vary greatly between patients. Individual observation is key to determining which factors cause the skin to become more red and reactive. more...

Sensitive or rosacea - Natural Organic Skin Care Products

In fact, you could be switching to calming or natural products that contain no artificial chemicals and only ingredients that are proven to be good for all types of skin, and you may still develop redness, blemishes, and acne, simply because you skin is sensitive. Anyone can have sensitive skin, but it is most common in young children, teenagers, and mature women. Young children are likely to have sensitive skin because their skin has not yet become hardy enough to deal with the environmental pollutants that it may come into contact with. Sensitive skin may be the result of genetics, which can be particularly frustrating for women who struggle with this issue, as it can make it very difficult to ever find a skincare routine that works without irritating the skin. For other women, however, sensitive skin develops over time as a result of the products that we use. Though sensitive skin cannot always be completely repaired, it is now easy to find products that will not irritate even the most sensitive skin. Look for all-natural and soothing products and be careful to ensure that they do not contain anything your skin is allergic to. Even though sensitive skin and rosacea is different, they still need special care. Products designed for sensitive skin usually are appropriate for those with rosacea. This type of rosacea may also include the appearance of blood vessels under the skin. Whatever products you decide to use, make sure they are natural, so they will not further irritate the skin.
