Shopping for an anti-aging skin care product can feel like hit-or-miss experience. Start with sunscreen and moisturizer: Dermatologists agree that sunscreen and moisturizer are the two most-effective anti-aging products you can buy. When shopping for sunscreen, select one that offers all of the following: It is so effective that moisturizer is the secret ingredient in many anti-aging products. Just be sure that the product offers broad-spectrum coverage and an SPF of 30 or higher. Look for a product that targets your concern. No product can treat all signs of skin aging. Using more than one anti-aging product in a few days or weeks can irritate the skin, making you look older. Buy a product formulated for your skin type: Your sunscreen, moisturizer, and other anti-aging skin care products will work best if they are formulated for your skin type. Read product labels and select a product that offers all of the following: It’s important to remember that anti-aging skin care products deliver modest results. Select a product within your price range: It’s human nature to think that the more expensive the product, the better the results. Once you’ve selected a product, you can maximize its effectiveness by following tips that dermatologists share with their patients.
French Skin Care. Skin Care – The French Way. How do French women care for their skin? French women value having beautiful skin and put a big emphasis on using the best products for their skin type . They practically have as many skin care salons as we in the United States have nail salons. The French know how to balance their lives and care for their skin and getting their regular monthly facials is something they are never too busy to do. They know that how they care for their skin today paves the road for the future health of their skin. They are diligent about using their French skin care products. There are many, many French skin care lines that are sold not only at the facial salons, but at the many beauty stores they have. Many American women have the philosophy of “if I can’t feel it working, it must not be working.” The Renée Rouleau Skin Care products are used by many French women. It’s the place where you go to complain about your illnesses, the weather and the lack of government (although in my observation, Belgians don’t complain much about the latter; in fact, they can go for months without electing one). If you’re a skincare junkie, you will enter the pharmacy and feel as if you’re in heaven. The dermatologists usually recommend La Roche-Posay, Avène, Auriga, Bioderma, and Louis Widmer, and these happen to be my favorites. It removes even the most stubborn water-proof makeup, sunscreen, and even perfume easily, and the unscented, gentle formula leaves skin soft and glowing. Avène is a competitor brand to La Roche-Posay, and many of their products are similar (and similarly good). When it comes to sunscreens, I’m once again partial to La Roche-Posay Anthelios range and Louis Widmer moisturizer with sunscreen for the winter. Lierac, Garancia, and Caudalie Vichy are other pharmacy mainstays, and you will see large displays of these products. Those who love unscented body lotions and creams will find many great choices at the pharmacy. The pharmacy is also where you find orange blossom and rose water. The bars are triple milled and hold their shape well. Orange blossom and violet are my favorite scents, and the anticipation of using them makes me more of a morning person than I am. You willso find a selection of interesting hair care brands at the pharmacy, such as René Furterer and Klorane. They are available in many different scents such as orange blossom, osmanthus, lavender, ginger, and the classical citrus cologne. Another pharmacy must-have for me is Bien-être L’Eau Parfumée des Familles , a light fragrance with citrus, musk and iris that feels comforting and makes the best cologne bath . Most pharmacies are little neighborhood stores, and they don’t carry the full stock of all the products I mentioned.

French Skin Care Products. Share This Link. Thanks for your reaction Don’t forget to share this with your friends! Dear French pharmacies, OK, that might be a little dramatic, but I do miss French pharmacies. So as a French woman who has spent more hours than I care to admit in pharmacies, here are my six can't-live-without-them French skin care products.
French Skin Care. There are five major steps in a French skin care routines. Skin Cleansing in French Skin Care. For Europeans, and most notably the French, cleansing of the skin begins with specialized milk cleansers. French skin care rejects old fashion bar soap, and is even skeptical of liquid facial cleansers. However, French skin care brands are generally gentle enough to use several times a day even on the most sensitive skin. French Skin Care: the Importance of Skin Toning. French skin care places a high value on the proper use of skin toners. French Skin Care Facials. French skin care is way of life, and as such, weekly facials are a must for every woman.
Some people like to use them as a toner, I personally use them to hydrate my skin when sunbathing in the summer and also to refresh my makeup throughout the day. Despite being quite thick, it manages to soothe and nourish the skin, without feeling heavy or sticky - a bonus when your face is about to hit your freshly laundered (well, washed) pillowcase. If like me, you suffer from dry, dehydrated skin, I strongly suggest popping the following three products in your basket, next time you step into a French pharamacie or parapharmacie. Caudalie Vinosource Serum , Avène Masque Apaisant Hydratant and Nuxe Crème Fraîche moisturiser are a perfect combination to help nourish, soothe and protect the skin, especially during the cold winter months. Ok, so L'Occitane isn't technically hard to come by in England and it's not a brand you can find in French pharmacies either, but I do love it and it's French so I'm adding it to this post anyway - I like to break the rules like that. It leaves your skin feeling clean, your pores looking tight and has a brightening effect on the complexion. For acne-prone skin, try the green clay version , which helps draw toxins from the skin and calm inflammations. The cleanser and daily moisturiser literally saved my skin when I was a spotty teenager. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo and Effaclar K creams are also really good to get rid of the odd pimple, but be careful if your skin is on the sensitive side as it can be quite drying - and no one wants to have to conceal a flaky zit! I am on my fourth pot and can honestly say that it is the best lipbalm I have ever tried – by a mile. It is a bit on the thick side and doesn't sink in very fast, but it does leave your lips feeling extremely smooth and deeply nourished. I personally like the nude and pink ones. Maybelline Instant Anti-Age concealer – or Instant Age-Rewind concealer depending on where you live - has been all the rage amongst American beauty bloggers and although it is not currently available in the UK, it is widely available in France. The smell isn’t the yummiest, but my skin is left silky smooth for several days.
Could this be the new French beauty secret? The result is Absolution , a certified organic skincare range that was founded in the French capital in 2009 and has since expanded to reach an international market. French pharmacies probably feel like CVS to French people, but to me they feel like a real-life version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Because they are 100% dedicated to skin care (and medicinal) products of all colors, shapes, and sizes. There are no photos of Citypharma in this story because the ratio of stern, lab-coated sales ladies to customers in that store is nearly 1-1 and they do not allow photographs. Respect Authority: The guardians of French pharmacies—the lab-coated salespeople—are busy, serious, and probably know more about your face than you do. Therefore, don’t interrupt them, and if they ask you if they can help you, for God’s sake, let them. Stay Basic: The old-fashioned ‘cold cream’-style formulas of lotions and creams are, in a word, beautiful. Perhaps the most famous face product is the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre , a self-described “moisturizing and nourishing care product for a smooth and elastic, supple and soft skin.” Who doesn’t want smooth and elastic, supple soft skin! And let’s not forget lips: the French pharmacy’s answer to Chapstick? And on that note… Treat Your Face Like Silk: Do not subject it to pushing, pulling, and prodding. My favorite rose water is by Sanoflore , but there are many and they each have subtly different scents.

Because it takes make-up off the gentle way, so it's ideal for sensitive skin, and in particular those models whose skin is made-up, and then undone, numerous times during the shows. As Lisa Eldridge explains in her blog "For fashion shows when you have to take make-up off very quickly, it's really effective and doesn't ever aggravate the skin." Probably because, as a model, it's been used on her skin at most of her shoots and shows - make-up artists love it for the way it plumps and primes skin. Incredibly soothing and nourishing for any stressed, scaly skin from the neck down. So popular this balm even has its own hashtag, not to mention a cult following in the form of editors, make-up artists and models who love the way this balm - originally developed to soothe sore nipples for breastfeeding mothers - soothes every bit of skin from chapped lips, sore noses and abrasions. Yes it's available in the UK, but its spiritual - and by the way, cheaper - home, is in France. Avène is actually a 'skin hospital' offered on France's equivalent of the NHS for patients suffering from psoriasis, eczema and skin conditions. The Avène Thermal Spring is now infused in a range of sprays, creams and lotions to make up its skincare line, and it's good even if you simply suffer from sensitive skin. It works on all types of skin, and I think it's one of the products that many models use. It's designed with problematic skin in mind, and is the much-loved brand of French derms for quick-fire solutions to skin that's suddenly drying out, breaking out or stressing out.

(See this French washcloth .) This is one skin care step they won’t skip. French Beauty Tip #4: Invest in good quality skin care products. Without a doubt, the French take their skin seriously, and they don’t skimp on the price tag of a skin care product. That’s not to say that the price of skin care products are exorbitant, but they really focus on quality. There are many French manufacturers that make amazing skin care products, and this is an area French women will invest in. Read: Are French Women Converting To American Skin Care Products? French Beauty Tip #5: Be patient with your skin care products. Skin care products can take 6-8 weeks for you to truly see results, and the French know this. The French are not into immediate gratification the way Americans are – they are far more patient when giving their products time to work, which I feel is certainly the right way. French Beauty Tip #6: Age gracefully and confidently. Similarly to how to French women feel about aging, I too believe that it is all about working with what you have, and enhancing, not altering it.

In terms of beauty, we were diametrically opposed: Where I existed in the easy, low-maintenance, zero-to-one-step French skin-care camp, my roommate followed a strict, traditional Korean regimen of as many as ten serums, lotions, patches, and creams. Our respective shelves in the bathroom cabinet looked like two different planets—it was the first time I had ever looked at a shelf of beauty products and thought to myself, “What is all of this stuff?” The more I use the accessibly priced and adorably packaged K-beauty products, I realize that if skin care is considered a luxury in America, in Korea it’s a right, and they make it fun, which is why everyone is doing it. I’ve built an arsenal of facial mists, oils (both for cleansing and for moisturizing), face masks, sponges, serums, lotions, and masks for day, night, and a longer, more nourishing routine on the weekends. The trick, for me, has been figuring out which ingredients work best for my skin, and then finding the best products that contain those ingredients. One of the best parts about the surge in the popularity of Korean beauty is that now these products are so accessible: If you don’t want to place orders from stores halfway around the world and wait weeks for things to arrive, it’s as easy as getting on the New York City subway. If you’re going to embark on your own Korean beauty shopping excursion, and I recommend that you do, I can tell you that the best part about these stores are the people who work in them: expert women who will speak to you openly and enthusiastically about their skin-care routines.
